DH and I did our usual route tonight (me driving out to my starting point, him catching me and riding together for about 10 miles, me stopping at the car, and him heading on home). Usually my average mph has been 12.9 or at the most, 13.1. Well, tonight it was........14.4!!!!
At first I was thinking that the wind gods were being kind, but after we got home DH says, "You were really moving tonight!" I told him that the wind was in our favor but he dissagreed. "Oh, there was a headwind, alright." And that's something for him to say since he rides a recumbent trike that if it was any lower he'd get road rash.
So here's my stats -
Miles: 18.10
Av. MPH: 14.4
Ride Time: 1:15:04
Max MPH: 27.7
This is really encouraging for me. I saw that the Dan Henry's were out for the upcoming Vine Ride on Saturday, so I drove my route. Whoever says that it's mostly flat is lying through their teeth! LOL! I'm going to pray for a tailwind the whole way around.
That is great!! Doesn't it feel wonderful when we can see how well we are doing? :D

Wow - excellent stuff, you were really motoring!
Really, what better feeling in the world is there (except chocolate, of course!)
Good luck for Saturday

I ride....so I can eat chocolate! Eventually my butt won't look like I just rubbed it on instead of eating it.

Congratulations! That's great progress. Do you keep a log of all your rides so you can measure your progress? I think I might start doing that myself . . .
WAY TO GO!!!
The more you ride... the faster you will get!
Keep up the great work!

I started logging my rides on bikejournal.com. It's free and you can customize it! You can even set a mileage goal for the year.

That's fantastic! I can only aspire to do that someday...someday .... I hope!
How long did it take you to build up to that and at what rate did you increase your speed and distance?

The distance didn't take very long at all. I've been riding on and off for a few years and just started getting serious about it last month. I would do this route on my heavy hybrid no problem, but at 11mph or under.
The speed increase I attribute to the route. I've been doing hills to prepare for my supported ride tomorrow, so I didn't want to tax myself on hills this week. The route is a familiar one, but fairly flat. Only 2 significant hills, and they seemed a lot easier this time. So I guess the hilly route made my flat route faster!
I don't know how far you usually ride, but I think that once you're comfortable with your bike you should be able to increase your distance as long as you take it easy.

ha! I think you passed me on bikejournal for club miles.
Now I'll have to start doing overnight rides just to keep pace

Wow, I guess I'm #100...hehe. You don't have many to go to catch up, though! A mere 7 miles. :D
