Okay, I have to say thanks to all you girls. You have inspired me and helped me a lot.
I ordered a road id and now have that for safety while riding.
My DH sat me down in the living room last weekend and showed me how to change the tire on my bike and then after he walked me through it, I went through the steps and did it. I feel comfortable enough to know I can change a tube now if need be. Not sure if I will be able to get the thing pumped back up all the way. Good grief those little pumps are hard to keep pumping with

I rode my first organized ride last weekend, sick and all. We went 26 miles, which is not much for some, but a huge accomplishment for us. Next ride we hope to do 50 and that will be the end of next month.
I haven't ridden again since, because I have been sick but hopefully will feel better this weekend and will be able to get out for at least a short ride.

I haven't lost any weight yet, but I am confident it will start coming off as I get more consistent.

Anyway, I was inspired by 1 girl I knew from another forum to start riding again. From there I found this site and you all have inspired and helped me all the more.
Thank you all so much. I hope to continue to ride and be involved on this site for a long time. :D :D

LOL @ those little pumps. Darnit right? :D

I'm happy to hear you are doing so well. No kidding, once the bug bites, the biking ones that is, well, I think you just get addicted.

And really what's not to like? Your health is improved, you have fun, you can spend time with others who share your newfound passion - and a little something else. Which is....

I doubt I'm the only one who feels this but, biking, and working hard on the bike consistently, even at my slow standards - makes me feel so strong, fitter, and just more confident. If I can climb a mountain on a bike, then darn, I can do most things.

I bet you've experienced that and more.

Best wishes :)

Congratulations DDH! 26 miles is a great accomplishment and your next goal will be too! I am amazed at how many women find this as addicting as I do!

Yeah, but the big ones are harder to deal with!

26 miles is pretty cool, DDH.

Try a Toepeak Roadmorph pump. They're small enough to fit on the top tube but have a little thing you can step on when you pump, like the big floor pumps--so you don't have to do it all with arm strength.

DDH, congratulations on your ride last weekend, especially as you were ill.
26 miles is a great distance and not to be sniffed at - and it's irrelevant what other people ride - your ride is YOUR ride. Hope you have fun on the 50 and feel a lot better.

Good job on your 1:2:1 puncture workshop - that's the most important thing you'll ever learn (aside from learning to ride your bike in the first place, but you've already mastered that one!). And I've recently changed over to a Topeak Road Morph pump, which is 100 times better than any little pump - gets your tyres (tires) up to full pressure and won't bend your valve in the process. Lots of girls here use them and I'm now a complete convert.

Happy riding.
