Had lightning flashes in my mirror for the first half hour, which was rather interesting. I just hope that it doesn't start any more fires around here! Rain, fine, we need it. Nice and cool otherwise.

I rode my recumbent to work today and as soon as my day at school had officially ended I was out the door for a quick ride. Once again we have been blessed with unbelievable weather here in Kentucky - low humidity, mild temps, blue skies and a gentle breeze. I rode 14 miles today and boy are my legs tired. I hope the massage I have scheduled this evening helps and I think I'll stay off my bikes tomorrow.
My last couple of rides on my recumbent have felt great and my speed is increasing. I actually feel like I'm getting the hang of climbing hills on this bike. Now the goal is work on my endurance and see if I can't increase the distances I cover on this bike.

1 hr, 10 minutes of fire road/double track at Umstead Park after work. Cloudy, humid, low 80s. Very tough going since I was riding my 32-lb. hardtail mtb as my much-lighter Racer-X is awaiting a new rear cassette and pulleys. But nice to burn 600 calories, and a pretty ride. First time I've been able to ride in 11 days due to a business trip and then brief illness, so my heart was really pumping! It was good to get back out there. :)

Did the commute home (at 14 miles) in good time. Had a major scare as I passed the airport. There was a BIG plane (727 size) that apparently was getting some work done on it. It was parked beside this hangar and not 100 yards from the road. As I was riding by, they fired up the engines and I just about had a heart attack! Holy crap...those suckers are loud when you are next to them!!
Other than that...the ride was uneventful and relaxing!

Last night was a night ride planned through our shop, about 15 miles. DH leads this ride, I sweep, because well, I can't hang with the guys on off-road rides (OK, I can't on road rides either). DH took a hard crash last week though, so he led it at a pretty slow pace, I could actually keep up!! It was an OK ride, it's been really dry here, so there was a TON of dust being kicked up for the bikes in front of me. Also, I hadn't been on the trail in a while, and it's a really sandy trail, so I had a hard time remembering the good lines through the sand. Took a couple hard crashes and now have 5 parallel cuts on my ankle (I thought from chainring, but it's on left ankle).
Overall, good ride. My lungs are a little sore today from all the dust. I really need to look into those masks I have seen pictures of girls on this site wearing.
