Ugh. I am beyond frustrated. I had a sebaceous cyst diagnosed in May... got referred to a doc who said nothing they could do, and to not ride. Yeah, fat chance. So then I got referred to another doc who said it had to come out as it would never heal itself. Cool, let's get 'er done. He also noticed an impacted/ingrown hair and said he would remove that at the same time.
Had the surgery, was recovering well... and then noticed a puffy knot. He MISSED the cyst!!! Ingrown hair was cut out. So here I am, STILL off the bike (at his insistence... just wants the incision to heal more) and now I have to have the CYST removed... they're supposed to call today to schedule it. Sheesh. I leave for Australia on 9/5... which means I will most likely be off the bike until I get home in late Sept.
May I just say WAH?!? :(
Wonder how long it will take me to build up everything I'm losing... at least I can walk and garden to keep myself moving... sigh...

I am sorry you are off your bike
It sounds like your Dr. may need some remedial math 1 (ingrown hair) + 1 (cyst) = 2 (items to be removed). Maybe he thought he got both at once??
Hang in there!

I'm sorry you are going through all this :(
Being off your bike, only compounds the problems. Not to mention, it is frustrating and lends us to oftentimes feel helpless.
Try cross-training a bit, it might preserve a little bit of your hard-earned fitness.
Wishing you a speedy recovery and that you are back riding sooner than later :)

if it helps any - it seems to take less time to regain what you lost than it took to gain it the first time. (did that just make sense?) would they let you ride a recombent stationary bike? (like they have at the gym). I'm just thinking it would keep the pressure off the incision area but still allow you to keep the leg muscles in shape....................

I would be frustrated as all get out too.
Hope they do it soon and you heal quickly.

Yes, you may!
I'm sorry that you are going through this..... I hope that once your cyst is excised, that you heal quickly.
Have a peaceful day.

thanks for the sympathy... I DO appreciate it... my non-rider friends don't quite get it... I get, "well, you can ride when it's healed". They mean well... but it would be like me telling them to stop watching TV. :D
Doc called... August 24th at 4pm. Sigh... the upside is that it will be healed prior to my vacation... time to try to see the positive huh? :o

tprevost... I am tentatively planning on getting back to some serious training with all that entails (hill repeats... ugh) when I get home... as to Australia... yeah, this will give me almost 2 weeks to heal. And none of the water activities (white water rafting the Tully River and snorkeling the GBR) come until the 2nd week of the trip. We ARE doing a walkabout of the Blue Mountains but I'll be totally fine for that. Don't worry... next year I plan on riding plenty again... I'm sure by then I'll be working to keep up with you!
fishdr... no... I'm going with my best friend... she's a walker... does 1/2 marathons etc. She and I were walking up a hill one day and I looked up and said "this would be so much easier on my bike"... we both had a laugh after that... and she slowed down! :D LOL She does not ride tho... has an ancient bike that I've offered to help get running... but no interest so far...
