I forgot to put this in when I recapped my tour.

Our first rest stop on the first day was a marvelous little prairie church. We happened to hit it right when the service had started so we decided to go.

It is the first (and mayhaps the last) time I have ever attended church in black spandex shorts, dayglo yellow jersey, accessorized with adorable gray mesh with pink straps and trim cycling shoes, pale pink camel back, a gray and silver bell helmet and of course what all proper women wear to church - black fingerless Trek gloves.

So now the next question, where is the most unconventional place you have worn your spandex?

(and ladies who have trouble going out in public in their spandex maybe this will give you all the confidence you need)

I love my black spandex Terry capri Spinnakers so much I often wear them all day, wherever i go. The padding is very light and doesn't stick out at all, they have cute side slits and just cover the knee. So comfy and soft, and just plain CUTE! I wear them sometimes on days I don't even get on my bike! I love showing off my new biking body, and the capri length is rather flattering and descrete- no "sausage effect" either.

That's why I got a skirt!! I started commuting to work and did not feel comfortable entering in my spandex. I felt much better once I got the skirt!

Lisa, I tried to find that just now on the internet after reading your post. Where did you get it? Much thanks.

I just think its cool you went to church regardless of what you had to wear. I've done the same on trips and the church goers are very appeciative of the effort.

I go to all sorts of restaurants and stuff in my car gear and no one seems to care. The most uncomfortable day I ever had if once I biked to work and since I was only staying a few hours stayed in my bike stuff. The suit and tie crowd gave me the once over that's for sure!

I wear my spandex to church all the time, But I'm an episcopalian, so we're pretty loosey goosey. I remember getting interrupted by crisis on my commute home a couple of times (when I commuted by bike)
I think the oddest places was when I lived in Harrisburg, PA. the club there had Friday night socail rides. A couple of times, the rider guessed wrong on the Place's dress policy.

Wow- too cool!!!! That made me laugh, too! I'm Catholic, and my mom recently switched to Episcopalian, so we call her "Catholic Lite- Catholic without all the guilt." :D

I've gone to church committee mtgs in spandex, but not Sunday service. I would like to, and have actually considered it. But some of the old folks might go into heart failure. ;) I may get a skirt just for that purpose!

I was raised Catholic but don't live in a "Catholic friendly" city, so when I attend church I go to the Espiscopal church. I call myself a "Cathopalian." :D

I've always wanted to write a book about being a "guilt-free Catholic." Spandex would do fine, though I've never done it. I could easily get away with it 'cause I'm in the choir and we recently got robes - but half the time I don't wear spandex on the bike. (If it's less than 20 miles, I don't need padding. My bike fits that well ... or maybe it's that tough Norwegian callused crotch :D :D :D )

I was on my way to a bike weekend that was within a hundred miles of the rest of the family, and got the call that my great-aunt had died. However, I stopped in a mall on the way and got clothes. Spandex at a funeral, even black... not without a really good reason.

I could not imagine myself going anywhere in spandex besides down the rode on my bike. I am under the opinion, (whether it be wrong or right) that some people just shouldn't wear some things in public. I mean no offense to anyone by that remark. If you are a secure enough person to do that, then I say more power to you, I just don't happen to be, and with my weight, lets just say, I won't be wearing mine out anywhere. LOL
I look foward to the day that I begin to believe I look good in spandex. :p

Plus, I don't know about you girls, but I sweat profusely when I ride, so needless to say, I don't look or smell to good by the time I get where I am going. I think I sweat worse than men do. It's unbelievable to me sometimes, how bad I sweat. I see other women exercising, and they hardly break a sweat, and in 5 minutes, I am dripping wet. It's awful!!!

It may not seem like it, DDH, but that's a VERY efficient cooling system we have! Yes, I sweat like that too!

If I wanted to go to Church and didn't have time to go home & change, I would certainly show up in Church with my cycling shorts on!

My mother always said to me, "God doesn't care what you wear in His House".

I personally would not have a problem with this. I'm sure that I would be sitting alone though -- Oh well!

Well my pastor is a hard core hammerhead and racer so he wouldn't mind as long as it wasn't everytime you came. In fact he would likely make a beeline to talk to you after service and see where you are going and such. As for the congregation they all know that he and a few other members of the church are on a racing team so they wouldn't think to much about it either. In fact we have a ministry off of our church called Lake Effect Cycling that does charity rides to raise money for a local organization that helps people with food, clothing, used bikes, and a soup kitchen. If by chance you want to check it out its at www.lakeeffectcycling.com.

Ok now back to the question, the strangest place I have wore my spandex is hard to say really none of them are that strange. A hotel, resturants, amusment park (outside it), the hospital, junk yard, shopping in a grocery store.

I 've worn them to a hospital, an office of the Virginia State Police. Probably doesn't count, as a working at both places at the time

Wearing my spandex biking shorts to church would certainly be the weirdest place I would be wearing them....'cause I'm an atheist! ;)

Today I got locked out of the house wearing my spandex biking shorts and sleeveless jersey. As I stood on a busy street corner using the pay phone to call my husband for help, I did consider what a sight I was (especially with no bike around as an excuse -- I was in my car, since I did have my car keys with me). I guess I was just in too foul a mood to care how fat I looked. My attitude was more, "Bite me."

I'm an Episcopalian, too. Lots of us here, eh?

I call it the church of the outdoors. :)

(Sometimes if I'm doing an event, I'll call it the church of racing, the church of running, last week was the church of triathlon, and so on...)

Love it! Or, the church-of-two-spheres-and-a-straight-line! (See this thread for explanation: Great Bike reference in Gothic Lit (http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=9324) .)

I get the same spiritual feeling in the Colorado Rockies, in beautiful cathedrals, and in dark, quiet movie theaters. LOL

The thing about Episcopalians is we bless everything -- I think I need to get Dinah (my bike) blessed. Maybe she won't throw me again! (Hmm, maybe what she really needs is an exorcism?)

When I was growing up, the Catholic kids would take their bikes to the priest to be blessed. Nobody wore helmets then, so I guess that was their way of practicing safe cycling.;)
