The forks on my mtn bike decided to die a death and so I was faced with having to buy new ones. Having the current budget to afford something like rs pilots, I was wrapt to get sid race's dirt cheap.....and oh my, my, my! I will never view off road riding again in the same way.....I would give a limb for these forks...swett, mega sweet!

The SID race is a nice fork! I ride the SID SL which is the predecessor to the race. The race has better torsional stiffness. That's was the big gripe about the SL, but it doesn't bother me. My LBS guys said that it was a good choice for "lighter" riders. Big, heavy guys would have more problems with the flex.

The Fox Float seems to be the "in" fork around here. It's nice to have something different. Especially if it works for you.

I'm going to pop for a Marzochi as soon as I have to replace my RS SID SL. I am really dissapointed with this fork. It's what came on the bike ( Kona King Kikapu) but it's been a problem. The seals started leaking within a few hundred miles. I had it rebuilt ( total teardown etc) by RS guys at the NORBA races last year, and it started seeping again within 100 miles. I was rather disgusted, supposedly have the best techs for the job rebuild it, and can't even get the last half of the season out of it.


while it's a nice light fork suitable for someone of my size and for XC racing, I'd never buy one. It'll be the Bomberhood ( marzocchi ownership) for me. The riders I know and trust all use them.

My bike came with the RS Sid XC but I upgraded to the SL. I've never had a single problem with it. I have about 4,000 miles on mine. No "big drop" riding --- just cross country riding and racing. Maybe you got a bad one. But if you had it rebuilt by a RS tech and are still having problems, there's something wrong.

I've never tried a Bomber but I do like that term "Bomberhood":p

wall.... it's like this. Technical stuff puts me to sleep. So I tend to go with people opinions from those I trust. I ride and hang with a bunch of guys who some have been around since the advent of mtbiking. One guy's beeen guiding in Moab and Fruita for years, and has seen everything break and fail that CAN break and fail. He postively hate rock shocks, call them "rox sux". You should've heard him swear when I told him my seals were leaking again.

I've taken this person's advice on components numerous times and have never been sorry. I replaced my hubby's RS with a Marzocchi EXR last spring, and boy, is he one happy rider now.

Maybe it's a goofy way to shop for bike components, but it works for me. Sort of like finding a car mechanic you really trust if you aren't wrenching yourself.

Unfortunately there's always someone to love a product, and someone to loathe it. I constantly heard things in the swing of RS good for xc, bad for dh. Minatou good for both, and Marzocchi in the reverse situation of RS. If anything substantially good or bad comes of the fork....

It's 8am Saturday morning, most of Melbourne is zzz'ing....I'm off for a ride :D

um er, I guess I came off a little heavy (??) New parts are always a good thing, espeically if they are upgrades. Even better if they are on sale. What would we do without a little competition between manufacturers, eh?

Don't worry Irulan. I get passionate about equip that has failed me. :) I upgraded from a shoching pair that was some crap acme brand sold with the bike....top gun, don't think they'd know how to make a banana split :rolleyes:
