I posted this pic in Thread Drift, but I want more comments. I'm needy that way. I can't decide if I like my new Banana Bag.

Well, what's it for? Do you commute, or carry a lot of stuff around?

I think it's one of the better looking bike bags I have seen.

Sure, black would have been a nice color... to match your bike and to keep the dirt from showing... but overall... it looks very nice and functional!

I like it. and since it's a bigger bag, it will make your butt look LITTLE.

I like it. I use this Carradice bag (http://www.wallbike.com/carradice/barley.html) on my mixte, because the Banana bag was out of stock. My bag is even bigger, but I've decided I like it. It's our picnic bag and I don't really use it for anything else, but bicycle picnics have become one of my favorite spring/fall activities. I can fit a tablecloth, cups and plates, a bottle of wine or juice, and a full lunch for two in there, and still have room for a pump and tool kit and a camera.

My husband thought the bag was ridiculous at first, until our first picnic when I pulled out a bottle of wine and lunch for two, including unsquished bread.

I really like the bag. It is a larger bag, but I am guessing you carry a lot with you? I have been wanting to get one for my husband. I love the look of the bag. IMO it is one of the nicest lookig bags I have seen. My theory-for what it is worth, big bag=smaller bum. :)

Okay, I am newish and I need to know-why are these cages better? I am currently using the black ones that came with my Trek but yours look sweet. Where did you get them and why these over the others. Inquiring minds need to know. :)

They may look sweet, but they are very pricey - $40 at Rivendell, and $45 at Peter White Cycles. (Then again, maybe Snap has a better source for them than I found with a simple web search looking for nitto bottle cages.) Compare that with more standard (and yes, probably heavier) bottle cages ranging from $5 to $15, and choose where you want to spend your cycling dollars.

This might be the prettiest thing Nitto makes, and we've yet to see anybody hold it in their hand without reaching for their wallet with the other. If a water bottle cage can be beyond words, this one is. It holds securely in any position, and we believe there is no finer (or better) cage made. The copies are already popping up. No respect!

Thirty -five dollars is a whopping lot for a bottle cage, but this one is fillet-brazed by hand, which makes that $35 seem like a bargain. The perfect gift for cyclists who can't bring themselves to spend $35 on a bottle cage. If you put one on your bike, and you'll want another. Right there's your warning. 53g.

Please note: If you are using this (or any) cage on the underside of the downtube, you will be better off strapping the bottle in with a toe strap to keep it from working loose or breaking the cage. Cages were not really design to take the kinds of forces that you get with the underside mounting, so it is a good idea to give it that extra support. Or just use a $10 ALE chromed steel cage down there, and save yourself $25.

I have them on my Rivendell. I'm a sucker for things that are handmade.

They are sweet looking, but at this price, I will need to add them to my wish list. Sadly, school supplies for the boys must come first-sometimes I hate being responsible. Thank you fopr the information on them.

Thanks V.

Until I become a much, much better cyclist, I think I will stick witht he cages my bike came with. They appear to work well for now. I will keep these in mind and definitely add them to my wish list. My Christmas list just keep growing and growing. :) And here DH thought this would be an inexpensive family hobby. :D

I thought the Nitto cages were really pricey too, until I saw what the LBS was charging for super-zoot carbon fibre cages. yeeks. And the Nitto cages are waaay prettier.

They make a nice gift for a cycling enthusiast.

I love the bag. I wanted one like that, but my bike is too small for it. It's like my candy bar bag for the handle bars, which has the added talent of being able to trun my lights off and on...

Nanci,

I am fairly certain you mentioned it before, but would you mind reminding me which handle bar bag you have?

Thanks and sorry to be a pita.

Maybe I better not wear the bag AND shorts with contrasting color stitching.:o

OK, my secret's out - I carry large bags so my butt looks smaller in comparison. :p

SK,
You are too funny! The bag will minimize your bum and contrast stiching is usually slimming, although I have seen some short with contrast stitching that has been put in places no woman should have emphazied. There was one pair of shorts (cannot for the life of me recall who made them) where the stitching outlined the female reproductive track-IMO not atractive.

Jobob,
I was thinking I should get a large pack to help detract from my big bum. :D

I think fancy/expensive bottle cages make great Valentine's Day presents for cyclists. I bought my husband ridiculously pricey but very sexy carbon fiber cages for his road bike last year; they really do look much better than steel on his bike. But he hasn't taken the hint and bought me the Nitto cages. He is so unromantic.

Jennifer, didn't you say elsewhere that you're down to like a size 6 now? I think you need to look in the mirror again! A size 6 bum is NOT a big one!

Karen,
You are so sweet. Yes I do wear a size 6 once again (Yay!) Unfortunately I have always had a "bubble" butt. Late last night I could not sleep (child was having a sleepover) there was a commercial for this thing (forgot the name) that would lift your bum and make you "curvy". The entire time , besides laughing, I was thinking how I would like to look less curvy. I realise I am shaped this way and I will never have a small bone structure, nor will I ever be tall with long legs. The older I get, the more I come to accept my body. I still occassionally dream about how nice it would be to look tall and petite.

I can only fit one bottle cage on my bike, and it's a carbon cage.

http://www.triathlete.com/store/product.php?id=40145

At the LBS, though, they have _colored_ carbon cages! Like red! They are so pretty. They were supposed to "hint" to BF that that would be a good present, but I guess they forgot.

I love handmade stuff, too. When I shoed horses, I had some tools that were handmade, (by a company, not me) and even a hoof tester and some pritchels that I made myself. My hoofstand was made by me ex, (automechanic) with a flywheel for a base, and my initials welded onto it. I made my own toolbox, too, but at the time would have rather had a "real" one, if I could have afforded it...

Snapdragon,
If you decide you don't like the banana bag, i would buy it from you for what you paid for it- but only if you let me know by tomorrow night (Monday night). The reason is, I am just about to back order one from Rivendell, but will hold off my order for another day in case you wanted to sell me yours instead. The ones they make now are grey rather than your tan, but I like either color.
Let me know.

Snap dahling, that bag is lovely.

And I think it will have a slimming effect since it's a solid not a print :D

SK, if you don't mind me asking, where did you get that bag? DH and I have been looking for some bags for our bikes, that are big enough to put some things in. Most of the ones we find around here are very small bags that go behind your seat, that seems to me like they could barely hold anything, much less my wallet, keys and extra anything else.

But there is sometimes a backorder wait for one of several weeks, perhaps even 8 weeks, so you must keep that in mind if you order one. I don't think they have any in stock at the moment- just ordered mine yesterday and I expect to wait weeks for it.

One of they guys (Lee forgets who, he's even worse with names than I am) mentioned how great you look. :D
