Twice this morning the air raid siren has sounded on our kibbutz.
200 missiles have fallen all over the north of the country in the past 2 hours. Many on open ground, starting fires, but some in settled areas. Planes overhead all night and all morning.
No ride today either - didn't sleep well with siren from up the hill and explosions; and now I'm not going out in *that*
Words fail. How can anyone imagine that there is going to be a positive outcome to all this? Even if everyone stopped this minute there has been so much damage, injury, fear and loss of life I can't see that anyone will be able to declare themselves "the winner".
Obviously there is something here I am not understanding. They are screening Catch 22 on the Old Movies cable channel. That should sort my head out.

Margo, words fail me as I read your post and see the news. I will never understand the *reasoning* behind such things. Please take care. My heart and prayers go out to you and all the *innocents*... Be safe.

Margo, I'm no longer sure of what exactly to say.
I'm kicking myself-After years of thinking or even believing the situation in southern Lebanon had sort of calmed & the civil war in lebanon come to an end...I was wrong...Not that i believe everything i read!
I just keep shaking my head & think Rafi Hariri must be rolling in his grave...After spending all that $$$ to rebuild beirut/lebanon it's gone..
As i said before, I'm in the middle of reading Pity The Nation-by Robert Fisk-and shake my head again and again because it seems some people just don''t want it to end...
I just hope you and your family keep safe. Take care dear.
Hopefully someone out there will put thier guns down one day...

Margo -
You are so right - there will be no winners in the end. How terribly sad this all is. I don't know you but I do think about you as I continue to read about how things are unfolding. Stay safe.

Dear Margo,
My heart aches with you, your family, your kibbutz, the nations, the world. It seems like nothing but insanity. So much destruction achieves nothing. Keeping you in our hearts. Your posts help me keep focused on that one little spot on a lake in northern Israel.
I love the new avatar! How's the kiwi beak, by the way?

Margo - Do take care! I think of you every time I hear the news. There just has to be a resolution to this - somehow. Stay safe!
Margo,
My heart goes out to you and your country. Also to the civilians in Lebanon who are trapped by militants who use their homes and towns as hide outs.
I think the US has a responsibility in all this having started the Iraqi war. We have increased the hatred toward western nations (israel included). The arab nations practically see the US and Israel as the same. How can we stand around and tell Israel, or anyone for that matter, to stop defending itself when we went in as aggressors and killed civilians too (thousands)? Tyranny, extremism and war breeds .. well.. it breeds tyranny extremism and war. The US is certainly guilty of all three. Hezbollah very much too. How do we back down from these wrong headed positions?
Peace comes from understanding, working together toward common goals, and empathy towards others. The truth is all civilians in the middle east can (and many already do) have the same goal. To live peacably in the persuit of life, liberty and happiness for themselves and their families. That goal does not have to include wiping out others who are not like yourselves. We should be spending our money on programs that encourage interfaith and cross cultural understanding. Not spending billions on war.
I hope you and your loved ones stay safe. I hope to visit Israel again soon.
Oh, I better stop here.

Margo,
Everyone already expressed my feelings. My continued prayers for all and for peace. There will be no *winner*, only countless *losers*. As always my continued prayers for safety, health, and my eternal optimism for peace.
Stay safe.

I get chills reading your message. Scary times.
My college roommate's dad went to Beirut several years ago to be president of the American University of Beirut. I think he had left the university to come back to Princeton for the summer when all this started, and I expect many people have evacuated from there.

Hi Margo
I, like many of the women here, think about you each day
My family are aware too and often my two youngest - aged nearly 13 and just 11 ask how Margo is today
We light a candle for you each evening, as your day begins
Love, light and peace

I read the news on the BBC, and had to come here to see if you'd posted something. I wish there were better words I could say- but nothing I can come up with can really sum up my feelings on the subject. Men. Such a need for power and control, so little thought to the innocent. Take care, Margo... stay safe.
