Yesterday I reached my goal of 1000 miles for the year! For many of you this isn't much but it's 300 more miles than I did last year, my first year of riding, and it's only July (well August). I was so excited to see the odometer roll over to 1000. I even let out a little woohoo! I think I'm addicted. :)

Congratulations! I'm right behind you. It's great, breaking personal records. I've been logging my miles on bikejournal.com and boy; if you slack off for a week, everyone starts passing you. Keep it up;a fine august season awaits us!

You're winning! 1000 miles... just think about how far that would take you in one trip. Prob'ly clear off into the ocean!

Woo-hoo--congrats to you!
1000 miles for the year is my goal also. I'm about 200 miles away from it, but just started riding again in April of this year. I'm chipping away at it though. Look over your shoulder--can you see me way back there, trying to catch up? ;)

Way to go!! I just finished my first year of cycling as an adult and got a total of 5352.89 miles (both indoor and outdoor) I'm nearly in shock (had originally wondered if I could get 600 miles between Aug and Dec of last year:D ) so I never dreamed I'd have the mileage I have now. I'm sitting at 3109.24 for 2006 with a goal of 5000 (may be increasing that later in the year) Just get on your bike and keep pedalling!! Congrats again!!

Thanks everyone. Now I'm starting to wonder how many miles I'll have by the end of the year. We have pretty good weather here so I should be able to ride most of the remaining year...if the wind doesn't get too bad. I HATE WIND! Shooting for 1500 now!
Bad JuJu - I thought I could hear someone catching me! I hope you reach your goal!
Bikingmomof3 - It's amazing how the miles add up. At first they seems to take forever and then you start riding just a wee bit further and the next thing you know they seem to be adding up quicker. Good luck.

That's awesome. Any time you meet your personal goals it's a great thing. Good work.
Next year will it be 2000? :)
Good for you!!!!!
I think 1000 is a great goal -- I shall now adopt it for my season goal! (I wonder how long "the season" will last here?)
Yesterday morning, I told DH that I needed an eight mile ride, and then I'd have 500 for the season. We did a few more than that (31.2)
Today, I'm looking at the last day of July, and if I drag this aching body out for a 4.9 mile ride sometime today, I'll have a 250 July -- you can bet I'm going to do it!!! DH is coming along, even though he wants to watch a movie tonight with DD (dear daughter). He tells other people that I'm good for him that way: I drag him out on the week days. If I'm lucky, I overhear him tell people things like that! On the other hand, he drags me out of bed on the weekends!

Congrats on meeting your goal! There's no end to what you can do! Keep it up!

Yeah, it's a pretty good combination, but he does have to LITERALLY drag on the weekends! Geez I hate mornings!!!!

Layers, layers, layers - the season never ends. (I'm thinking studded tires, too.) Hard t imagine when our heat index is 109...

Yeah, I'm going to try not to wimp out this "winter." Our's are mild enough that I should be able to ride nearly year round. But it gets very windy during the winter and even if it's not really cold it can still chill you to the bone...not to mention that it's not much fun to ride in weather like that. I have to admit I'm looking forward to some cooler weather.
betagirl - yep, next year my goal will be 2000 miles...or maybe more... depends on how many I end up with this year.

i know how the wind and the cold go. not fun! my feet freeze every winter, but i ride anyhow and jump in a warm shower when i get back.

Geonz - and everyone else who's dealing with big heat!
Be careful out there! I remember that nasty weather, and don't much miss it. Here in Boise, I think it has to be about 115 real degrees to have a heat index of 109. Fortunately, today only got to about 85, which felt darned near chilly after several days over 100!

In the pnw, I think I do most of my riding come winter... I'm just one of those freaks, though. =) Rain? Pfft. I don't have to shovel it! Snow? Bring it! Cold? If it's above 32F, it's still t-shirt weather! That's what WI did for me. :D
I'm just looking forward to getting my slicks!
