View Full Version : July 31st rides
Okay, I didn't ride any this weekend. I meant to skip Sat. but intened to ride yesterday and fell back to sleep after DH left for work.
Made sure I stayed up this morning. Rode 10.2 miles. A little less than last time. It was already so sticky when I walked outside this morning at 6 to leave, ARRGGGGG, I hate this heat and humidity!! At least by leaving as early as I do I miss out on the winds that pick up throughout the day.
I hope everyone has a great day and great rides.

I had a good ride to work on a slightly different route. A few streets in downtown DC have lanes dedicated to bikes and buses. Well, no one in cars actually pays attention to this lane restriction...but I took the lane (the one that says in huge letters on the pavement BIKES AND BUSSES ONLY), and you guessed it, I got honked at and yelled at. But I held my ground!
When I got to the MUP, it was nice and peaceful.
My fender is coming loose from all the rough pavement in town so I had to stop to tighten it. I was thinking of removing my fenders, but I know as soon as I do, we'll get alot of rain...and I don't like to get a stripe up my backside.

Wow, what a difference a few degrees makes. Lately it has been in the upper sixties to low seventies when I leave the house in the morning. Today, it was fifty-four! Cool enough to send me back into my closet looking for a long sleeved top for the ride in. I prefer cooler weather and the ride in was just awesome. Made me wish that that temperature would be the high for the day, rather than the low. Come on, autumn!

Last night as I logged my miles from the group ride I realized that I was 24.39 miles short of a 500 mile month. I begged Tiff to join me for an early morning ride and she's such a great friend...she said yes!! I was totally dragging this morning, the headwinds were killing me and little bumps felt like mountains, but we did it and I reached my goal...plus a mile!
July was a 501 mile month for me! :D

Brandy, you don't know how close you were to ending up riding solo! I was done at mile 2! :p

LOL. Well, thanks for hanging in there with me. You know I love ya for it. I was done as soon as we started too. That 25 miles felt way longer than the 63+ we did yesterday!

Don't usually make a habit of riding with my husband on the mountain bike but I didn't have any rides planned so I invited myself on the ride on the mountain yesterday with my husband and a couple of other guys. It's just too hard for me to keep up on the rocky technical stuff, but I went for it anyway. Well, it turned out to be a great ride! The ground was wet from a really nice rain so the traction was tacky and perfect, and I rode all of a downhill that I NEVER ride all of. I also hung in there real well on all the hills, I guess all the training I did for hte Bicycle Tour of Colorado paid off for me. It has given me great endurance something which I have always been lacking in. I was so proud! :D
It is very unusual to have a lot of humidity here in Flag, but right now the humidity is pretty high with monsoons going every day. The mountain was beautiful and misty!

It was good to see you back at it!. It was raining when I woke up, so I decided to sleep in.

Well, after the rain on Saturday and a friend being in town on Sunday, I didn't get in my weekend ride. However, I got a great surprise when I went to call my new attending for the month after orientation got over and h told me to not come in to tomorrow!! So you can guess what I did, went home and got right on the bike. Luckily it was only in the mid 80s so I was able to get in about 20miles. Yeah!!

Well.. it looks like the heatwave has finally broken here - it was in the upper 60's this morning and threatening rain but I decided to go for it. Only did 30 km but it was 30 km of nothing but hills (which is all we have here!) I have my route mapped out for a metric century so I've started working my way through it because it will take me awhile to be able to do the whole thing. It's going to be 100 km of hills!!

I decided to make the most of my last Monday of freedom so I took my recumbent out for a slow spin. I checked my Bike Journal log before leaving and discovered I was just 21 miles short of breaking 900 miles for the month so my short spin turned into a little longer one and slow (13.2 mph). My legs were tired and flat but I was determined to break 900 miles so I kept pushing and by the time I pulled in my driveway I had 23 miles for today.
Time to shower and get to school to work in my classroom (I can't believe we go back to work on Thursday :( I guess the good news is I had a GREAT summer and logged 1584 miles the eight weeks I was on vacation
DDH, Brandy, and Tiffanie --
Way to go! DDH, a shorter ride is okay, it's still a ride!
Brandy and Tiffanie, Good job getting out there and doing it! Congrats on your 500 mile month, Brandy! Tiffanie -- we all need biking buddies like you!
Karen in Boise -- who still has to get out there and ride today!
Did it!
So, yeah, today's ride was pretty short -- as my daughters both said, you'll get that done before you even break a sweat, mom!
Only 5.7 miles, but it put me just over 250 miles for July -- which is almost half the miles I've put on my bike in the three months I've owned it!
Thought about riding for longer, but it was supper time, so I was hungry when we left home, and I woke up pretty stiff and sore from lots of riding over the weekend, with more hill climbing than usual. So, this was kind of a ride to make sure I didn't not ride today, y'know? AND to make sure I made this nifty number that I realized last night was so close to attainable!
Hmmmm, do I set a goal for august, or do I just see what I can do?????

Did my commute home even though we rode 78 miles on Sunday. I was suprised how strong I felt! It was HOT, but I kicked butt. It was a 14 mile ride (as usual) but I did it with an avg speed of 17 mph!
When I downloaded the ride info, I saw that it was 100 degrees when I left (at 6:30 pm). Dayum!

worked from 630 am until 630 pm. Sat on my butt all day. Sometimes we stop testing while they do a model change (airplane engine model) that's when yesterday I ran out and did laps on my worksman bike. I got 3 breaks, I rode
4 miles. When there is a headwind, that bike acts like a sailboat (the wrong direction of course) I got quite a workout, averaging 9 miles an hour.
The last time out I rode 2 miles and the giant tractor seat on it started to hurt my legs/butt.
By the time I got home there was no time to ride my bike so I was glad that at least I had the old purple thing to ride.

I suppose I'll post my Jul. 31st ride even though it's a day late. :)
Did an amazingly slow 18 miles through the beautiful Willamette Valley. My average would have been about 15mph except for the nasty headwind on the backside of my ride. That brought me down to a dismal 12.7 mph. I hate wind!

I have missed two days of riding. I don't like riding in 30-35 mph winds!
