Yes, I gave in and bought (well charged) a bike. I test road several bikes and decided the best fit for me was a Trek 1000.

Until I figure out how to load a photo, you can view it here: http://www2.trekbikes.com/bikes/bike.php?bikeid=1413000&f=4

I am so very excited. :D

Congrats!

That's my twinky bike! I bought my Trek 1000 in October 2004. It has served me well for 3,000 miles. In fact, I got my first flat at 2,500! I think they put wheel of steel on it!

Unfortunately, the decals on the bike are starting to come off... I think I have worked the bike just too much! HA!

Oh, a bit of advice... find a good bike mechanic who can adjust your derailer just *right*. I have had to get my derailer adjusted on a regular basis.

Also, at around 300 miles, make sure you take it in for the tune up... as the chain stretches it will start automatically shifting gears .... nothing to be worried about, it's typical... thus this why you typically get your first tune up for free.

Overall, a great bike for the price.

My bike colour is officially called: Black Chrome/Smooth Silver, but it is black, silver, and bue. No pink, but I love it anyway. :)

Thank you and I truly appreciate the tips. I am writing all this down so I do not forget. I am still giddy. I really love my new bike.

I wanted to say thank you to everyone for the kind words. I am still giddy about my new bike. Now I feel as though I actually have a "real" bike. It is a sweet ride for me. Granted I need to get used to the clips and gears without numbers. ;) I cannot wait to take her back out tomorrow and practice, practice, and practice more.

Here is my bike (if I do this properly)...http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e368/knittingmomof3/100_1718.jpg

Jeez, she's terrific! Many happy miles to both of you!

All you people buying new bikes are making me chomp at the bit to get my own new bike out of layaway sooner than planned. Must...avoid...pulling out...credit card.... :D

I told my husband we were just going to "look" at bikes, yet brought my Brooks saddle with me. :D I wanted to be certain it was fit properly on the new bike.

She rides so smoothly compared to my hybrid. I still cannot tget over how skinny the tire are. I am still giddy. My bike spent the night in the house.

I gave in to the absolute need to ride a "real" bike and ditch the hybrid. I told myself I would be content with it until I did all I could with her. Well I maxed out on gears and speed on my hybrid within 3 weeks of buying it (ouch-yet I would not be riding now had I started out with my new Trek). Anyway, I was *not* going to charge a bike and (as she hangs her head down) I succumed to my need for speed and charged my new baby!:D

OT-thhere is an awesome coffee shop in the town I purchased my bike in near the trail head. I meant to buy my SS her coffee there and of course in my excitement I forgot :o So now I will just need to make a special trip back to the bike store, I mean coffee shop. :D

Bikingmom, congratulations, that's one beautiful bike! I love the part where you said she slept in the house. Ours have never slept anywhere else. Each of ours dogs has his room, and the bikes have their room! :D Hope you enjoy the bike.

Thank you! The cat sleeps with me, so that is covered. Sadly the bikes (all 6) do not have a room of their own. :(

Just Beautiful!!! All gleaming, with all that "power black"! You and I both had our new bikes sleep in the house their very first night- the very same night! :)

Where are your shifters located? I too am now having to adjust to NOT having gears all neatly number-labeled for me! Only takes a day or three I think, I'm halfway there now. Expect a little sit-bone soreness for a few days as you break in your Brooks saddle, but no big deal. Did you put leather softener on it to hasten the molding, or not? I'm trying to do without it, as it will dramatically darken my sweet honey colored saddle. ;)

Thank You, I love her and I am thrilled to know I am not the only one who had her new bike spend the first night in the house.:D

It is a scorcher out, and my house is too small for me to ride in. ;) I will brave the heat late this evening.

The shifters are located just inside right and left of the break levers. It is just teeny push tab. Not the huge numerical roating one I am acustom too.

My saddle is awesome. No complaints. I road it a few days then added proofhide. I only added the proofhide to protect the leather, not for comfort.

My only major complaint is trying to learn how to get my feet in the clips. Are they actual clip? My feet are supposed to slide in and I do not think I have the correct shoes. My Reebox just are not fitting right or I am a moron (probably the latter).

Edit: I have a dreadful migraine so my typing is worse than ever. I really can spell, I just cannot type.

Thanks Ellen. I think she is wonderful. :)

I know the feeling. I just got my new Schwinn road bike on Jul. 17th. It still has the new bike smell!! (kidding)

It took me a few rides to get comfortable on it. I had a really huge hybrid before. I thought that because I was a heavier rider I needed a larger bike. Not true!

Anyway...enjoy!

I rode 100 miles on my hybrid and decided I needed way more power. :D
