I discovered that we have a real LBS in our town. The others I've been to are in the next suburb over. I went to the local one today and they seemed to carry mostly Raleighs, and LeMond seemed to be their upscale bike. The guy showed me one that new was $5000 but is for sale for $3200. (He's the owner's dad and used it last year.) Not that I'm interested in buying one, but I was just curious, no Treks or Specialized or Cannondales or other brands I'd heard of. What does that say about the place?

And are LeMondes any good? (And is there an "e" on the end of Lemond(e) or not? I forget.)

No "e" on the end of Lemond. Lemond bikes are terrific bikes. They were originally created by Greg Lemond. He sold the name to Trek a few years back. The Lemonds of today have a different geometry from Trek. They are not quite as compact geometry as Giant and Specialized.

Go for the Lemond if it is the right size for you. You will enjoy the bike for years.

Raleigh also makes some great bikes too, and Lemond has a line of WSD bikes, even steel frames.

Even though Greg whined all though OLNs coverage of the Tour "I coulda woulda shouda" ... I like the bikes ;)

When I got my nice road bike last year, it was a toss up between a Lemond Sarthe (the orange one...oooh!) and a Luna. I ended up going with the Luna, but I do like the Sarthe.

When I went to this out of the way bike store (not local to me) the had LeMond and Trek. The LeMond bikes were sweet. Out of my price range, but definitely sweet. :)

I have a 2002 Lemond Zurich - old style Zurich - before Trek, all steel no carbon. I just love my bike. I like the way it looks, I like the way it rides, I like the way it fits. The bike you are looking at must be Ti 'cause Zurich's are lower price around $2200 full retail. The Ti bikes are beauties. I wouldn't hesitate to by if it fits and you can afford it. Note Lemond geometry is alittle different than other bikes - the top tube is very long. I ended up getting a shorter bike because of it. I bought a 51 cm but probably could have done with the 53 cm WSD.

I just got my first rode bike about a month ago. I got A Lemond Reno WS. I love it.

A lot of the people here that race ride Lemonds, I didn't know much about them except that Trek was building them, until I saw the number being ridden in the Crits. I've now added it to my list of potential bikes to check out - if I could ever afford a real true brand new never-been-ridden-before bike! :D

My first bike was a 00 Lemond Zurich - great to have friends my size that like to upgrade their toys! The bike is awesome!! It's all steel and great to decend on. Although I upgraded this year to a Serotta, I would highly recommend the Lemond. It's still in my stable and I have no plans for it to go anywhere anytime soon!!
