Ok, so my ride today was the worst ever because in spite of good-feeling legs and mental attitude, my gut was on fire. Kind of like a poo sandwich, with my head and legs being the bread.
What I can't figure out is exactly what set it off. Nutshell circumstances:
1. Really hot here, like 98 degrees with as much humidity
2. Rode last night, 25+ miles, fast, well fueled (Hammer gel & HEED), felt great
3. Tried to eat smart to recover, drank lots of fluids
4. Sweat buckets this morning weeding the pepper patch, but rehydrated throughout the day w/ 4+ liters of water, about 1.5 of which contained endurolyte powder.
5. Ate my normal frequent, small meals throughout the day. Ate 1 piece of bread w/ a little margarine about 45 minutes before leaving.
6. Started getting bloating & stomach cramps about 20 min before leaving, but figured they'd blow over. Ha!
So...from your experience, do you think my problem was the heat/possible dehydration, the endurolytes, the bread & marg, or maybe some of each?
All I know is that I'm not getting on my bike with stomach cramps ever again! If my partner hadn't hauled me home in the van, I might still be hobbling up our driveway.
