:D
title says it all. It was my first DUSK ride as I had to work late, and as I was riding home there were bugs everywhere.
I'm gonna hafta learn to keep my mouth shut. (I guess that's true in another sense too) :p

Eeeww!! I had trouble with Love Bugs earlier this year. I got one in my mouth, and spit it out, and then another went down, and I puked it out!! It just happened, I didn't even try- they taste HORRIBLE!!

Wonder if there is a bug that tastes good and is good for you?

I swallow bugs regularly, just CANNOT ride with my mouth shut! There was a very funny thread on Bike Forums, something like, "What's the biggest bug you ever swallowed?" (someone's answer--dragonfly. ugh).

I too, ingested something fuzzy and salty during yesterday morning's commute. I just wasn't into the early morning protein thing and spat it out. Just glad it wasn't a cloud of them and only a solitary creature. Gnat clouds aren't fun to ride through!

OMG, this is just too disgusting:eek: Of course, it will probably happen to me next:rolleyes: Now I'm going to be all thinking about it while riding--yucko!

at least you didn't chew it and get all the bug juice.

Ask Tiff, I have that exact same problem!! I think I eat a bug on every ride. She's getting used to me gagging dramatically at least once during a ride. :p

I haven't had this happen to me. I guess all flying small bugs are fried in AZ. But I had a beatle hit me in the head on the fly. I thought that I would lose my helmet. I could not wash off my helmet for a long time. Yak!

I hate eating bugs! If I am lucky, I can see the swarms in my path and I quickly look down.
Also, I found that if you breathe through your nose and out with your mouth this can prevent an incident. Plus it is a great way to regulate your breathing.
I always have trouble with bugs flying right into my eyes, normally on days when I don't need my sunglasses. I managed to get a pair of glasses that have different shades for different weather. This has been great.

I thought eating bugs was just a great way to keep energy levels up :D :D :D
BTW how can everyone identify them before eating them? ? ?

i hear bugs are a great source of energy.
don't know how to identify them before eating, i just figured they knew you were running low on energy and decided to jump in.
OMG, this is so gross. I haven't eaten any. I try to remember to breath through my nose and out my mouth. I thought that was the way you were suppose to breath while exercising. I couldn't imagine smiling and having bug stuff between my teeth. LOL
I would probably puke involuntarily if I swallowed one. Or be like Brandy and have a gagging coughing fit trying to get it out. LOL
I have been hit by them, but before when I use to ride quite frequently and now that I am riding again, so far, (knock on wood) I have not eaten or even gotten any in my mouth.

See I'm thinking the same thing - all those fancy gels and whatnot out there.....why bother??....just eat a bug every few miles, ride a brevet!!! ;)

I've only eaten a bug once, but it was a little one and gave me no energy at all. :(

When I was in the Army out on bivouac once, a bug crawled way down into my ear and wouldn't come out. It was dark and I was reading in my shelter-half with a flashlight. It was QUITE annoying and nerve-wracking to have him in there flapping his wings and crawling around! ::shudder::
But I got wise and pointed the flashlight at my ear and it crawled right out. Still went to sick call, though. Wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to use a flush toilet. :D

I remember one recent ride I was on where a HUGE bug flew right down my top and got stuck in my sports bra. OMG I was wiggling trying to get the thing out. Finally I stopped and lifted my bra just a bit to free it. I didn't care about what anyone thought.

I WISH I could breathe thru my nose and mouth only when ridin but it aint goin to happen when I'm chasin the boys, or my very favorit fast gals!
I was racing district time trials one year up by Tahoe and on the way back a bee (or wasp) whichever one can sting twice flew down my bra and stung me. Ouch!!!! I quickly got out of my aerobars and grabbed the offending area and tried to kill the bee. I must have just stunned it tho, but I thought I got it. I made it to the finish line dead tired cause the last half of the time trial was into a wicked head wind and I'm all done and happy to be so. So, I'm sitting on the tailgate of my pickup truck minding my own business and wouldn't you know it, the danged bee/wasp stung me again! What audacity!
Without further ado, I ripped off my jersey and killed the little stinging bugger! Never thought about it before, but maybe someone got a thrill out of that! But I certainly wasn't too thrilled with the little bee.:p

That's like on Wild Boyz when Steve-O or Chris is going walkabout and they stick a scorpion down his pants and he jumps all over the place to get it out, then they walk for hours, and all of the sudden, it falls out of his pants! But they _like_ to get stung... (I love that show).

Hehe, gnats are a regular part of my MTB diet  Unfortunately the bigger ones try to go down when I'm on the road. And while I can always use some more protein, this isn't the way I want to get it!!!

I'm so glad i'm not alone. During summer I think i swallowed half the flies in the city ;) and gagged/vomited at least once a week on my rides. It sucks, but i just cant manage to ride with my mouth shut :p
