I just got into cycling a few months ago and it hasn't been pleasant to my butt and the area on my legs right below my butt. After every ride I have what look like little pimples and irritation on my butt and upper legs. Does anyone else experience this? Any suggestions on how to get prevent it? Thanks!

Is it possible you have a lycra allergy that is irritated by riding?

You could try using a chamois butter or Vit A&D ointment as a lubricant and see if that helps.

It's also possible that it's a form of acne. I've had that problem in the past, and my doc gave me some cream that is normally used for acne. I know that there have been some mentions of this in http://www.roadbikerider.com in the past too.

This might be a condition called (I _swear_ I didn't make this term up!!!) (but I would have if I'd thought of it first!!) assne (like acne, but area-specific) caused by sweat/heat trapped by lycra. I've heard wash with anti-bacterial soap as soon as possible and don't sit around in sweaty lycra...

wow - so queefing and the urban dictionary actually made it to a whole other thread? i am impressed.
so with lycra causing normally feminine women to have ASSNE and have to apply creams - due to chafing, saddle sores, brusing, and.....assne, etc - and the cream causing (verdict's still out on this one) embarassing farting (queefing) noises - it's becoming more and more apparent that the cycling realm has not completely come around to our side.

The other gender must have their share of cycling-related issues as well (OK, no queefing). So, lets all just keep riding and each take good care of their own body. And when you're 70, you can be thankful you don't have a prostate.

I don't think assne is a typical female cyclist problem- I just think you get it by bad luck when you can't get showered fast enough. I think hairy axx guys get it _way_ more.

OK just so you can have one more person in your study - I will admit that it has happened to me after cycling (only once... who knows why...) and I had not used any chamois cream at all... Thankfully, I was alone and did not share the information with anyone. (Of course now I am posting it in cyberspace for the world to see..... )

Anti-Monkey Butt Powder works great for me ... I also have a lot less trouble with butt bumps (women DO get butt bumps too, they just don't like to admit it, it's not pretty  ) since I switched from a wider saddle to a Terry Damselfly. AND, since I bike commute to work (and there's no access to a shower there), I do a thorough full body cleaning with baby wipes before hopping into my work clothes. All that stuff helps.:)

For the first couple of months my butt was like this...

I just showered asap and used aftershave lotion if my skin was cool enough, or pimple cream.

It seems to have toughened up though, and I rarely have problems down there now.

I still use aftershave though - especially if I cant shower straight away... I get out of the bike shorts and slap on aftershave.

Yep, Anti Monkey Butt Powder
http://www.antimonkeybutt.com/

Good stuff.

I also used pimple cream a few times when I had a bumpy problem ... and a couple times I slathered my fanny with a clay facial mask. Got a good giggle when I turned around and caught a glimpse of my green fanny in the mirror (it was a "mint julep" facial mask). :D

Anyway, so far I'm not having trouble with that any longer since I changed to a narrower saddle, and started bathing the butt cheeks (and everything else) thoroughly with wet wipes before I get into my work clothes. It's been 85 degrees with 78% humidity out there most mornings lately, ugh ....

It could also be heat rash, although I would think you would feel the heat rash. It itches and burns like needles poking you.

If that's the case, the less moisture and heat, the better.
