A little while ago I posted a thread about getting pregnant and heave cycling:
http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=7950
Well, just like Nancy said, cycling is not a very good contraception method. I am only about 3 weeks pregnant and it is great that everything worked. Now I also remember a thread about keeping the heart rate at no higher than 140. Here is the article that I found on the matter: http://www.babyfit.com/articles.asp?id=51
It looks like it depends on a person and level of activity before pregnancy. I already feel tired a little sooner than I used to, but so far it does not restrict me to maintain my speed. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

It worked after the first try. I bet that pregnancy will not stop us from keeping on "trying". Thanks!

Congratulations! May you have a happy and healthy pregnancy!
I cannot help with the exercise info while pregnant. I was on bedrest with the first and hospital bedrest with the twins.
Enjoy every moment being pregnant, it goes by quickly!
Again, CONGRATULATIONS!

CONGRATS! good luck and a healthy pregnancy!
i'm not sure about the working out thing. but when i use to swim at the gym there was always a lady there that was doing laps and she was 7 months prego. she worked out before she was prego, and said she slowed down a bit as the months went by, but it still made her feel better to work out.
my bf's sister is an ob/gyn and she ran up until she had her c-section, but i know shes a big runner anyhow.
i'd say listen to your body and talk to your dr.

Thanks for the regards and good advice. I will keep on working out because this is what I am used to. I found a few good artciles and they helped. I am pretty sure that my body will tell me what to do.

I did high impact aerobics until about 6 weeks before my first son was born (swam and walked up to the due date). Same thing for the second one. I was back exercising after 3 weeks both times and back to my pre-preg. weight after four months. But... listen to your body. I would be VERY careful about exercising in the heat in AZ (I had both my kids in Tempe, so i know about this). Raising your core temperature is not good for the baby. I have personal experience with this, won't go into details, but you might want to work out inside if it's hard to keep your temp. and HR lower, at least until it's cooler out.

Don't know if you're familiar with the book, "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. If not, I recommend it highly! :)
Best wishes for much success and happiness!

Congratulations!!! And may I say, boy, that was quick ;) :D!!
I was completely exhausted during my first trimester. I basically could stay awake enough hours of the day to go to work. But after that I wound up being in the best shape of my life to that point. I was doing 20+ mile mountain bike rides over 11,000 foot passes during my second trimester. But I was doing them listening to my body, long slow climbs, walked a lot of trickier downhills that my non-preggo body could do, and lots and lots of stops to water the bushes and eat snacks :D!
Of course, I was young and foolish, and wasn't following any written guidelines, just what my body felt comfortable doing :p.
Again, congratulations. And sleep now, while you can!

So, I wonder.. a friend of mine is in her first trimester and she had just gotten a new road bike before this. I was telling her that I think it's too dangerous to roadbike while pregnant as you could fall. You girls seem to be okay with it. I told her to stick to an indoor trainer for a while - do you think otherwise?

CONGRATS!!! I luuurved being pregnant.
I have carried five babies to term, and my general understanding was that I could continue doing whatever my body felt comfortable doing before I was pregnant.
As for a fall, in general baby is well cocooned and a fall - as in low speed tumble, shouldn't effect baby or the pregnancy at all. Even in a more serious crash, babies will often protect themselves/be protected.
Women can tumble downstairs, and still, somehow, baby manages to to stay ok even though mum is bruised - as long as forceful blows were not applied to her belly.
The problem comes if mum has had trouble staying pregnant, or has a particular medical condition, in which case she may be advised to stay away from strenuous activity...
Disclaimer: I am not a midwife or doctor, and this is only my opinion and my experience and shouldn't be treated as medical advice.

I don't think I was so much tired during my two pregnancies, but I do remember needing way more sleep. Of course, I had no idea how little sleep I would get AFTER the baby arrived! ;) Get as much sleep as you can now!

I'm not sure about the falling issue. I never wanted to do ANYTHING in my first trimester with all 4 of my kids because I was so incredibly nauseous all the time.
I think, like the other ladies here have said, you can do what you could do before you were pregnant, perhaps, with a little less intensity. I would personally probably not road ride just because of the possiblity of getting hit by a car. It's not just your body that you're taking risks with anymore when you're pregnant. But that's just my personal philosophy and everyone has to do what feels right for them.

As my midwife explained to me, the baby is so well-protected, it would take the force of a severe car wreck to injure the baby. The presence of relaxin in the mother, however, loosens the joints and leaves the mother more prone to orthopedic injury. Gauge your level of comfort. How likely are you to fall on a road bike. Of course, if you're going to be a nervous wreck out on the road, a trainer is your best bet. :)
