It's amazing that the Marin Bike Coalition got the local enforcement to run a Share the Road checkpoint. Yay!!

That's pretty cool - though I thought you were going to report that "hole in pants" had caught on as a fashion trend among cyclists.

They've had a few other checkpoints like this - usually staffed by both Marin County or town law enforcement and MCBC folks. This is the first that I am aware of that has occured immediately after/because of a car-bike accident.

Not only is Marin County hip - we also have GREAT roads (and trails) for riding.

And for those who are interested, Hole in Pants cycling is guaranteed to catch on eventually as a summer fashion statement. It's like air condiitoning.

I can't find the article now, but in West Valley City, a 'burb of Salt Lake, law enforcement did a "safe passing law" sting last week (or maybe it was the week before). They put cops on bikes and pulled over vehicles that violated Utah's safe passing law, which requires motorists to give cyclists at least 3' of clear space when passing. I don't know how many citations (if any) were issued, as the main focus was awareness.

Bicycling is a major form or transportation in WVC. Hats off to the City for making the effort.

OH, my :-) Cynically I had feared that yes, the *law* was passed... political hay was made... but no drivers were inconvenienced. (Hey, I'm in Illinois.)
