Ha ha ha! Just got my mail and the newest Title 9 catalog was lurking for me. First thing I noticed was *bikes* on the cover! Woo-hoo! Next thing I noticed was "wait, she's wearing clogs and those are clipless pedals!"

At least there is a helmet in the picture. Not on her head, of course, cuz that'd mess up her hair...

But at least there is a helmet, unlike the cover of the latest Terry catalog. (Georgena! How could you!!!!!?????)

Heehee, good catch !

Gawd, I so envy those models bodies. Last catalog it was their legs. Now it's their arms. No batwings in sight.

I got it yesterday, but I threw it in the trash without looking. I hate how they don't use brand names, except for Horny Goat or whatever that brand is. Brand reliability, or lack thereof, greatly influences what I buy.

If you call and ask them, they'll tell you the brand. Most of their stuff is Horny Toad (Goat! *snort*), Columbia, Merrel, Keen (hard to miss that one). I like the cataloge, it's the stores I'm usually disappointed in.

You'd think a herp lover like me could have remembered that...

I like the Athleta and Sahalie catalogs a lot, though.

They surely wouldn't advertise their IQ especially thw type related to cycling. :)

NanciI've told them the same thing. Lot of difference it has made. So, I don't buy from them either. Especially since their catalog won't let me pretend to be smarter than the models.

Thanks, KN, I have that, too, and I looked at the pedals, looked at her shoes, looked back at the pedals, thought...Hunh? That looks hard to ride! I know, I think those gals are gorgeous, and their lives look so fun, and purposeful, and ... easier! It's sort of the "Vogue" of the fitness clothing catalogues. Or at least...Glamour? Anybody remember Madamoiselle? Seventeen? Now I'm definitely instigating thread drift.

The T9 catalog you are referring to just showed up in my mailbox, and while I normally wouldn't jump in to this discussion, well...

When I commute to work, I stop at the health club at the Marriott across the street from my office to take a shower and change into "normal" work clothing. I then walk my bike across the street to start my work day. My attire at that point is definitely not cycling wear. My helmet (which was securely attached to my head while I was riding) is slung on the drops, and my cycling shoes (with cleats) are tucked away in a pannier. I am usually wearing a skirt (not my normal cycling attire) and sandals or clogs. The woman in the cover shot looks just like that...

On the other hand, the photo on the Terry catalog should not have been printed without a helmet. I did send an email to Terry telling them of my dismay at their non-helmeted models who were clearly sitting on bicycles.

I figured she had her shoes in her bag, because clearly she wouldn't be riding without a helmet like the girls in the Terry catalog.

Some time back, Title Nine pictured a cyclist zipping along without a helmet. It might even have been a single-track photo. I was bothered by the helmet-less rider and wrote them in protest, pointing out the responsibility they had; especially to kids who might look at the catalog who could be subconsciously influenced by the pics. They never responded.

Nah, nothing wrong, it just looked kind of hard to pedal to me. On the 4th of July, I rode my Bianchi Veloche to my sister's. She was admiring it, and then said, "What happened to your pedals?" She'd never seen clipless. "How do you ride with those???" I showed her my cleats. "Oooohhh, cool!" On my Larkspur I've got those pedals that are flat on one side and clipped on the other. What a cool invention!

Oh, Denise, you are so cool! I should write to Terry, too. I've worked with enough brain-damaged patients that I utterly freak at the lack of helmets. I'm guessing (sarcastic comment aside) that Georgena Terry did NOT have final say on the chick in biking clothes on a cruiser bike without a helmet anywhere in sight.

I've known of people to get horrific brain damage just falling over at a stop without a helmet.

WEAR YOUR HELMET EVERY TIME, EVERY RIDE, NO MATTER HOW LONG OR HOW SHORT! (dammit!)

(clipless or clogs or whatever is up to you, I just thought the pic on Title 9 seemed awfully posed, and thought it was pretty funny to those of us "in the know")

My ex BF's dad died, falling over on his bike. He was an elderly man, not going fast at all...(No helmet).

I dug the T9 cat out of the trash to look at the pic. I think she could ride on those pedals with clogs if she had to.

I guess i'll be the dumb one here.
What's T9 and what are they selling if it isn't brand name stuff?
(I don't get it)

Yea, I woudl say it's a reasonably safe bet that the model didn't ride like that.

(I don't get it)

They sell clothing for women for hiking, running, working out, etc. Their site is at http://www.titlenine.com. And while they do sell name brand stuff, they do not identify the brands on their web site or in their print catalog. Some of us find that rather annoying - particularly when sizing between different brands is not consistent.

If you figure out the key, you can tell the brand from the item number. Their item numbers are 6 digits long. The middle 2 digits are an indicator of the vendor/brand. For example, item numbers like nn01nn are from Moving Comfort. Sorry, I don't know the rest of the codes...

It's easier, if you like a certain item, to Froogle it and give your business to the site with the best deal. Or the cheapest/most reliable shipping.

There's a lot to be said for knowing what you want and knowing a place, say TE for instance, will get it to you very quickly.

Plus it's fun to watch the sales here and other places- almost always, something I really want goes on sale when it goes out of season. That way, I can get two things I really want, rather than one.

But- if I need something right away- shorts, rain jacket, whatever- I like to give TE my business because they have excellent customer service, super fast shipping, and they deserve support for hosting this forum.

We have a couple Title Nine stores here, Mimi. One is in Greenlake across from Greggs, the other is in Bellevue on the "old" main street.

While their stuff is awfully expensive, I was very happy to discover that Horny Toad clothes are long enough in the arms and legs for me and bought a couple things. I've also bought bras and underwear from T9. The Greenlake store does a lot of women's recreational sporting shindigs. I haven't been to one, but I've got a friend who has done a few.

funny story - I bought a beeeeuuuuutiful pink LS Horny Toad shirt a couple years back from T9. I noticed that folks gave me odd looks when i wore it. Finally SKnot pointed out that it was the EXACT same color as my skin and from little distance I looked naked! Gave it to my mom.

Kind of along the same line...

A few years back, Bicycling had a cover photo of a woman walking her mtn bike through a creek, looking very stylish and like she was about to hop back on the bike...but in reality it would have been a bit challenging since the bike had NO PEDALS. :p She did have a helmet on, I guess to protect her from falling objects.

That reminds me of a woman on a bike I saw last Friday. She was in a bikini, riding a cruiser bike, with a rack with lots of stuff, and her swimsuit was a sort of orange color that nearly matched her tan, so she looked naked from a distance, and she had this wild curly long orange hair, the same color as the rest of everything, like down to her butt almost, no helmet, and she's just going along out by this rock quarry in the middle of nowhere. So my friend and I leave to drive down to Clermont, and I see her, and we both say "I say her earlier!!" Barb had seen her out on my road on the way to my house, and now here we were back south, same level as the rock quarry but a good ten miles further east...Very strange.

I think I heard on a podcast that Title 9 uses a bike courier with one of those big trailer things to move stuff around between warehouse and stores. Kind of cool.

I have to admit that I don't wear a helmet on my beach cruiser at Kiawah Island. I ride it on the trails and on the beach. I do, of course, always wear my helmet on my road bike except I didn't yesterday when riding my new trainer. This is definitely thread drift, but I didn't figure people wore them on trainers?

I have the Title 9 catalog. It made me smile to look at it after I read the beginning of this thread. :p I was thinking that perhaps her shoes are in her bag also.

I love Athleta's catalog!

If a "trainer" is a stationary bike with no wheels, then no, I don't think folks wear helmets on those stationary bikes.

If a "'trainer" is a bike with wheels that moves, please put on a helmet.

If you could fall off your bike and smash your head on the ground, you should be wearing a helmet. Doesn't matter what kind of bike, or how slowly you're moving, or how short a distance it is. You could pull out of your driveway, and the guy next door could be mad at his wife and accelerate out of his driveway -- BOOM -- major head trauma. No bike ride (in which the bike is moving forward) is safe without a helmet. I heard an impressive number--that helmets prevent 80% of major head trauma.

My brain. It's not the best, but it's the only one I have!

I'm amazed at the number of folks I encounter daily, who are riding bikes and not wearing helmets. I'd never ever get on my bike without putting on my helmet. Ironically, most of these helmet-less folks remember to put their IPOD on and blast it on HIGH. Hopefully, they won't take out any innocent people when they have that inevitable accident.

Thanks about the trainer/helmet info -- it was my first ride and I wasn't sure whether people generally wear helmets on a trainer or not. Although the floor is covered with rubber, I did feel pretty far up in the air. I know people don't wear them on spin bikes or stationary bikes (LOL), but I was on a Cycleops I just purchased. I'll start putting my helmet on while on the trainer. I supposed it's best to simulate road riding conditions as best as possible anyway.

No hibiscus, you don't have to wear your helmet while on the trainer. You are essentially a "stationary bike" when on the trainer.

Thanks for your input snapdragen. I really don't know if there's any chance the bike would come off the trainer or not. It seems pretty secure.

mickchick, I've never ridden my bike or jogged with an iPod in my ears. I think hearing in these situations is important. Now, I will ride my bike (beach cruiser) on the beach and on casual trails without a helmet.

I feel like I've really sidetracked this Title 9 thread -- I'm so sorry! I'll stop now. :p

I really dislike T9. First, they don't carry any sizes for petite people; i.e. people who are less than five foot four. I bought some bras from them and some running shorts, and bathing suits. Those were OK. But most of the cool stuff I see in that catalogue doesn't come in a size that will fit me. What pisses me off is that I know the manufacturer makes these products in x-smalls because Athleta or Terry carries them. Both of these companies make sure they carry their products in a wide range of sizes to fit real people. So, that's where I get my stuff.
I went to a T9 store in Boulder a few years ago. They were snobby and ignored me basically. That's when I stopped buying from them.
