why people read and don't post. A board is only as good as it's discussion, and the more participants, the better it gets. I see a lot of you lurking and reading, why not add to a thread sometime.
Now just for biking content, the die hard moutnain biker is having a hard time making the mental shift from outdoors to indoors. We have a weeklong storm front in place here and it's horrible out.
ah, well

...hmm, I posted my very first message to this board yesterday, and signed myself 'rosie the lurker', so I suppose you're referring to me.
Thanks for the warm welcome.
It's not in my nature to dive headlong into message boards. I generally take a bit of time to get the lay of the land before I join in.
- rosie, still a lurker.

Hi Rosie
Nothing wrong with a bit of lurking :p .
I'm sure Irulan wasn't being negative, more like Don't be shy, just dive in and join the chat. The more the merrier as far as I'm concerned....
Anyway, welcome on board. Looking forward to hearing your contributions :) :)

not a reference to any one in particular at all. It's great that you posted, I wish more lurkers would. The more the merrier makes for a better board. Things are just kind of quiet here right now.

yes, i do lurk a fair bit. i'm guilty!! :D sometimes, i just can't contribute anything because what i would say has already been said (like the recent 'do you condemn racing cheaters' thread. sometimes it's an advice question and, being a newbie, i don't feel i could really help anyone (like the 'bikes for the overweight' question- i had no clue!). the *real* deterrant, though, is that i only have 'net access at work. (of course, i am a very responsible employee...;) ) so i log in, start a post, and by the time i finish (an hour or so later) i've timed out!! so i have to copy and paste my text after i log in, which can be a pain sometimes, and does deter me if i'm busy. but, i will make an effort to post more, as i do enjoy this forum immensely!!!

Hi Spokes - yes a shortage of time is a pain. I post things while I'm at work but have to careful as my the way my desk is facing people have to approach me from behind and I can't see them coming.
Don't feel shy about posting stuff or think just because you're new you can't contribute much. All of us were beginners at one time, and as you progress it's amazing how quickly you forget what it was like starting out, and the type of things that were important then.
It's useful for other newbies to have someone to ask the 'obvious' questions and useful to the more experienced people to have someone with a fresh view to add their experiences.
Enjoy!
Liz:) :)

I'm new as well and basically I'm enjoying going back and reading all of the threads from which I think I can get some good info from. So, Rosie, you are not the only lurker...
And Irulan, feel free to drive the 6-8 hours or so down here to Boise. The storms are missing us. We have beautiful sunny skies today and we are expecting high 70's this weekend.

I confess....I'm a major lurker. However, it seems that about the time I get here on the net, my little one wakes up and I have to abandon the computer. But hey, I'm typing now and she is still asleep. I'm sorry some of you are facing yucky weather. Our weather is just now getting decent as far as I am concerned. I do not ride well in the searing heat! I may actually need arm warmers to start in the morning. We have family in town so my husband and I get the rare treat of riding together. We usually have to take turns staying with the kiddo. I'm also very excited that we get to do a charity ride together next week. He crashed a couple of weeks ago and can't ride the long stuff...he'll get to hang back with me on a 40 miler.
Ok, I've posted and now I've babbled...:D
I've been away a while, but I lurk as well - every day in fact.
Steph - in Tx - you are from where Lance grew up! What's it like in Plano?
Speaking of Lance, I'm halfway through his new book. Loved the last one "It's not about the bike". He's so easy to read even though there maybe times I disagree with him. For someone who's survived near death, he holds no alligence to God in any way. Ah well - different strokes...

I will admit, that I haven't been posting so much since I found out that I was pregnant. In fact, in the last two weeks, I HAVE NOT BEEN ON MY BIKE ONCE. The morning sickness that I am having right now is just way too bad. The last time I rode, it (the nausea, that is) came on quickly and hit me like a ton of bricks, and that was one scary ride! I am thinking of going to a spinning class - at least if the nausea starts then, I can sort of just slow down and spin, or even hop off the bike if I need to. Don't have to worry about being stuck 15 miles from home or something~
Anyway, I haven't been posting or lurking so much lately, because my bike is the furthest thing from my mind. I would usually post after a ride, and since I haven't been riding...
Anyway, I agree with Irulan - the more posts, the better!

Hey klr,
I wasn't ignoring your question...just haven't been on in a few days...
I didn't actually grow up in Plano, but it's a nice place. Lots of cyclists and most drivers are nice enough to give you some space. From what I can tell, Lance was pretty much dying to get out of Plano. The one neat thing is our fav LBS is the one that got him his start and the owner is super nice. It's kind of neat to get advice from him.
Steph (sorry I didn't finish it all)
That's very cool that the LBS is still there and I would assume the owner/mgr. is the very same one that Lance had dealt with? That's great.
My daughter's Volleyball coach (female) is from Arlington Tx, and when I asked her if she knew where Plano was (and I was pronouncing it Pla-no, like you'd say 'can-'.) She says, "Oh, you mean Plaa-no, like a long 'a'. I felt dumb because I'd never really heard anyone say it before. I've just read about it. She says it's a nice little town.
Anyway, thanks for getting back to me.
