Help please... My BF and I will be riding Bike Idaho this summer. One of our nights on the ride will be spent in Coeur d'Alene. I am a roller coaster junkie and know that Silverwood is nearby. What I don't know is just how nearby, can we easily rent a car to get there? or do they have shuttles from anywhere? is it worth going to? My BF promised me he would ride the coasters if we go (he's never been on coasters before), so I would really like to make this happen. Any info or help/suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Coeur d'Alene is about 15-20 minutes or so from Silverwood. You would have to rent a car, probably, I'm not aware of any shuttles. To get to Silverwood from Coeur d'Alene is pretty straightforward, which is the good news :)
Tremors is a fun coaster. They also have an old wooden coaster, a small inverted coaster, and just put in a drop tower. The rest of the rides are water rides (log rides and such) and other smaller things; there is also a full on water park.
My husband and I just did Disney World, so Silverwood seems a little small, but it's still fun. We live within about 15 minutes of Coeur d'Alene, and have been to Silverwood a few times, but not yet this year.
I have seen some places locally with discounted coupons for tickets, too. I'm not sure what the discount is, but those theme park places tend to be so expensive...
Hope that helps. If you need any other info, let me know, I'd be happy to help.

Thanks for the info. I couldn't find anything that really told me how close (or far) the 2 were. Sounds like a rental will be our best bet, unless we could ride there?????

I believe there is a bike trail that goes up highway 95, but I'm not sure how far. The Coeur d'Alene side is a little busy, lots of lights and stops, but once you get past town if there is a trail it wouldn't be too bad. If there is no trail, I'd be a little intimidated about riding it with only two of you -- sometimes I'm intimidated just driving it :) It does look, however, from the Bicycle Idaho map that you guys will be traveling parallel to highway 95 for a while the next day, so maybe they have a route that would work.
Looks from the map like it's about 20 miles from CdA to Silverwood (technically in a town called Athol... yes, for real ;)). Not sure you'd want to add 40 more miles to your trip, but I think biking it would be possible.
You could call a taxi, might be more expensive than driving yourself, but it is an option (and more convenient than having to rent and return a car?). You could schedule it ahead of time so you know they will be there to take you and pick you up. Too bad you're in town on a Thursday, or I'd offer to take you guys myself. We can always use an excuse to go to Silverwood :)
For rental cars, it looks like Avis has a car rental location in downtown CdA, hours: Sat-Sun 9-4; Mon-Fri 8-5. Dollar also has one in downtown CdA, hours: Sat-Sun 8-4; Mon-Fri 7:30-5.
Some of the local hotels do have Silverwood packages, so maybe those would include transportation, too? Not sure on that one. Worth considering if you're going to stay in a hotel.

Hey, Evil Twin! I'm going on the Bicycle Idaho Ride, too. I can hardly wait. I won't jump in on your roller coaster outing--they scare me too bad. We'll have to connect--I'll be the person with the southern accent in the group from Pendleton. I ride a blue Pilot 5.0 with red-striped Hutchison tires.

Will either of you have any extra time while your in the area? I would love to get together for a ride, if your not wiped out after your ride around Idaho. Maybe I could round up a few of the TE'er here on the dry side. How about you Colby? bikerHen

Ain't Doody... how cool, I'll look for you, we'll have to arrange a rendevous (sp). I'll be on a silver/lilac giant ocr.... are you sure you don't want to try a coaster????
bikerhen... I don't think I'll have extra time in the area, because after the ride we drive back to Salem so that I can be back in time to help my daughter with the finishing touches for her wedding 2 days later.... Maybe another time though???
colby... I'm looking at shuttle options... one of our friends is staying in motels the whole ride, so maybe his motel offers the service... Thanks for the advice, I wouldn't have thought of that on my own.

Bikerhen, I'm afraid I'm like the eviltwin. I'll be heading back to Pendleton.
Eviltwin--I'll be looking for you on your silver/lilac Giant. I'd also be willing to watch you on the roller coaster--from the ground.............
