Yesterday, after my two spinning classes I picked up Lara bar in apple pie, YUMYUMYUM. What other flavours would you recommend to try. It's a shame that it's so hard to find it in a regular GNC or vitamine shoppe. Only stores that sell them here are natural food stores.

I've had the cherry pie one and it was SO good! I think I had some chocolate one that Sadie Kate was kind enough to share with me and it was good, too. I like Larabars!

Hey did you already order Payday bars? :-) I don't see them in any store here in NY.

I've already found some of the Pro ones at my store, so I don't need to order them. Well, if they never sell the plain ones, I may order them... or just keep eating regular Paydays. :)

Pro paydays? Please explain?

There's a thread or two in the nutrition area talking about these new Payday Pro bars, which are Payday energy bars. I've tried the kind that are covered in chocolate with choc chips and dried cranberries... they were pretty good, but I could live without the chocolate when I'm riding. Apparently they make them with the regular peanuts and caramel only. I want to try that one!

Back to Lara Bars. I've been a fan for a while, but just tried the Cashew Cookie Bar. While it is yummy, I think I'll stay away from it--I was surprised at the amount of saturated fat it has. I guess that's what makes cashews so irresistable though.

hmmm, I saw that one but didn't want to try it for some reason. Usually after a ride or workout I like something with a fruit flavour. I never buy anything with chocolate in it either, chocolate in bars or gels just doesn't taste natural to me. I rather wait till after the ride and have some chocolate milk...

My regular grocery store, Stop & SHop, sells the Luna bars in their natural foods section. I bought a couple to try and when I got home I realized one has chocolate on it, but if I take it on a ride, it will melt for sure now that the warmer weather has arrived!! I can't wait to try the other flavors!

Lara bars are all fruits and nuts. The Cocoa Mole is delicious, has cocoa powder, cinnamon, and chili, along with the dates/raisins/walnuts. I love Lara bars, but I'm getting a bit tired of the Cherry Pie (I bought a case). I enjoy mixing it up with the Mojo bars.

I have not seeen the Cocoa Mole where I get my Lara Bars. I'm going to have to find myself some of those!

Edited to include: I just visited their website and besides a lot of LaraBar flavors I haven't tried, they list a MayaBar. Has anybody tried one of those? They look chocolatey delicious!

My favorite Lara Bar is the Ginger Cookie one. But for some reason, I don't really like the texture of them...too sticky maybe? I don't now. But I really like Luna bars - those are my current obsession. Their selection is much better too. Chocolate Peppermint, yum!

i also love the cashew cookie. But I have also tried the chocolate coconut and Cocoa mole and I liked both of those. I wasn't so keen on the pecan pie or the cinnamon roll.

The Maya bars I've tried have been yummy.

I like the Lara bars because they're organic and all natural. I used to be really into the high protein bars, but just got sick of how artificial they were.

My new favorite lara bar is the lemon. Really good and not to sweet. The cinnamon roll is good to but much sweeter. I love the cocoa Mole too. There is ginger snap, banana, cherry pie, apple pie and chocolat coconut chew.
I like the Luna bars too but they seem to have gone over to all these chocolate ones that just don't stand up to the heat. I like the old fruit flavors, lemon, key lime, orange etc. Trader Joe's usually has Lara bars and you can buy them by the box.

Do the Lara bars use cane sugar instead of corn syrup?

FreshNewbie

The sugar in larabars comes only from the fruits, there is no added sugar.

Terrific! Do they have any protein?

The lemon one has 5g protein. I think it varies from flavor to flavor. Here's their site... lots of info and nutritional info on each flavor.

It's 4 grams of protein, which is not so much, 24 grams of carbs ( if i am not mistaken). 9 grams of fat that comes from nuts only. All in all it's not the best source of protein, luna bars have 14 grams. I think if you eat a good combination protein+carbs meal before your rides and use larabars as snack after rides or during it should be good. I personally bought it after a spinning class, and just really liked the taste.

Thanks -- I've been a fan of Balance Bars for years and haven't branched out to any of the others.

Just bought some, one of each, Cashew, Cherry Pie, Peanut Butter Cookie and Apple Pie. Haven't tried them yet, but from the posts here, sounds like they're all very yummy.

I discovered them because they're gluten-free. I prefer banana. Hubby likes cherry and apple.

Wow... three years old and this thread is still rocking lol...

So, what does that say about Lara Bars then?;)

I *love* Lara bars the most so far from anything I've tried. They are not hard to chew like Cliff bars imho. Natural. Just the right amount of sweet without all the un-natural sweet added junk (that makes me pukey sick). Oh... and they are not crumbly messy in the jersey pocket (if you just half at a time during certain points in the ride).

But, yes... they are hard to find. I went to their web site and did retailer locater. Flavors are still limited in retail stores. I have considered ordering on-line.

Let's see, flavors I have had... 1) cherry pie, 2) apple pie, 3) peanut butter cookie, 4) cashew cookie.... ermm, that's all I can think of right now.

They are nut based for protein, which I love. That is a staple of my diet and protein ever since I lost a ton of weight and re-found my love for pedaling:).

Go Team Lara Bars!:cool::D

Coco Môlé.

Fair trade chocolate.

Chili powder.

I hate single serving anything. But O. M. G. Thank goodness these DON'T come the size of whole sheet cakes, because I would eat the whole thing.

Hard to find? Some flavors, sometimes, but in general, they've bought massive amounts of shelf space in all the big chain groceries around here.
