View Full Version : What type of pedals do you like?

I just got some of the Look style pedals - they have a pretty large surface area (the cleats are HUGE). Of course, they don't fit the spin bikes, which is a bummer.
I'm trying to decide if I want to keep the Look pedals (mostly because of the larger surface area) and then I'd have to get another pair of shoes to put the cleats that fit the spin bikes, or if I should just get ones that will do both.
Most of my tri club people said stick with the Look and get a 2nd pair of shoes for spinning, but I'd like your opinions too.

I went with the two pairs of shoes. I love my Look pedals, but I really like spin class too.

I have Look cleats
On a spin bike I simply use different shoes
I like the safety of Looks (as in "Raven-can-manage-to-get-her-feet-unclipped-in-a-hurry) too much to give them up!

I'm a big fan of Look's. Have them on both my bikes.

I have a pair of shoes for outdoor cycling and a pair of MTB shoes with SPD cleats for Spinning. I found my Spinning shoes really cheap at Performance.

I have Look pedals as well. My cleats fit both my bike and the bikes in the spinning room. Lucky me! :)

I guess i am still going with toe-clips. I find them totally adequate for touring or just going on 20-30 mile rides, and for around town they're awesome. No carrying extra shoes to change into, b/c you can wear just about anything.
Anybody else still use toe-clips?

another eggbeater vote.
MTB variety. Easy to clip in and out and with a little more float than SPD.

My knees like Frogs, although after STP I'm going to try Eggbeater Quattros.

Speedplay X5. I couldn't learn how to get out of the Shimano look-equivalent pedals. We had a discussion about it here,

Look Keos on my road bike - I love them. Can get in while standing and accelerating. I use my MTB shoes with SPD for spinning.

Pictures of the Speedplay X5s. Tiny, huh? They are effortless to get out of.

Compared to Shimano Ultegra (600s).

The cleats.

SPD pedals on my mtb, with a resin platform so I can use the bike with regular shoes for short trips.
Look KeOs on my road bike. I used SPD pedals for 2-3 months before getting these, while I saved up for road shoes and pedals. I love Look's big platform and my feet feel much better on the really long rides than they did with SPD's. Road shoes are just better suited for... road cycling. :)
I'd say get another pair of shoes for spinning. Better to take good care of your road shoes anyway. You can get inexpensive SPD shoes that you can use to walk around. There are some really gorgeous Louis Garneaus here on the TE site.

Just switched to Looks on my road bike and Love them so far. I still have SPDs on my winter commute which I will probably keep since the MTB shoes that fit the SPDs are bigger - and will accomodate heavier socks! I'd say go with cheapie shoes for spin class and stick with the Looks, as long as that's what you like.
