Since some of you don't hang out on www.bikejournal.com as much as here so I'm stealing maillotpois' post and pasting it here.

Some of you may have been following the RAAM coverage. One of our Cyclonaut friends, Homey, was involved in an accident the first day. He received 80 stitches, but he plans to keep riding.

Problem is, Homey also broke a crank.

LazyGolfer is on his way NOW to get a replacement crack from a LBS in Colorado, and Slantz has set up a fund (at the Bike Journal store) to help pay for it. That crank will run over $300, and they desperately need this to complete their race.

Calling out to our cyber friends for donations to these guys. They're working so hard to complete RAM, and I think that knowing that their friends at BJ are supporting them in their time of need will really help motivate them!

So go to the Bike Journal store (http://www.bikejournal.com/store.asp)and chip in - I know it's tax time for some of us, but anything you can do will help!
Hope some of you can help out also. They also have a broken window and LazyGolfer is making a long and expensive drive to get the crank to them. I know they'll appreciate your generosity and support.

Wow, you & MP & a host of others were certainly busy today ! I got a kick reading the story unfold on BJ.

Nicely done, bravo to all involved.

Even though they have covered the crank cost, they are still taking donations.

Frankly I think the symbolic gesture of donations from "X" number of people, even a small amount, will be motivating and uplifting for those guys. Plus, this adventure is costing an arm and a leg.

Can you tell us anything more about the accident?

Somehow Homey (Bernie) went through the rear passenger window of his (brand new) van. There was apparently confusion with people directing the van to pull over, etc. The window is broken as is his crank, and Homey required 80 stitches and a lot of time to get all the glass out.

He is apparently ready to ride again, but needed that crank.
