Another short question - about overall fit

I've been searching the threads here and while I'm finding bits and pieces of the info I am looking for, I need more. :p

1) Do all shorts by the same maker generally fit in the same way? For example, if I have a pair of Shebeest shorts that fit well (Stripe Sprint shorts), will I do well to stick with Shebeest when I am looking for a more padded short for century rides?

2) I have big legs and a small waist. Any recommendations for shorts that follow this fit (that you know of)? I can tell pretty well what chamois I will like or dislike from the pictures, and inseam is easy to figure out from the listings...but this larger leg, smaller waist thing is driving me nuts.

(Yes, I am ordering online...my LBS stocks tons of women's jerseys but no where near enough styles of shorts!)

Not necessarily -- just because it is from the same company does not mean it will fit the same, but if you have had good results from one company, it might be a good place to start. Shebeest makes a century short you might want to look at, it has a thicker pad.

For the leg issue, maybe a longer short would work better because it would place the gripper lower. If the leg opening is small on the shorter styles, the gripper might bother you by feeling too tight because it will end up high where your leg is widest. You want muscle compression, but you don't want to cut off circulation. This points towards the Shebeest century short as well because it has a longer inseam.

From my own experience, it seems that Castelli & Sugoi both have wider leg openings than some of the other manufacturers. But my legs are thin. It would be better to ask the staff @ TE for some recommendations.

My opinion most of the shorts fit differently. I am a fan of Terry shorts but love PI as well. My PI shorts tend to have a lower waist and tighter legs. Plus fabris is different. Just need to try them all on but basically if you fit in a medium you fit in most mediums.

Squirrel - what I didn't mention is that I also have very short legs, so an inseam longer than 7" starts to annoy behind the knees (if you can believe it! :eek: ).

I guess my other alternative is to lose more weight! :p

I will try calling the ladies at TE when I get a chance. :)

I've got short thick legs too. I like the Sugoi evolution shorty. It's got a 6" inseam which hits me just below midthigh where everyone else wears their 8" shorts. A small waist shouldn't be a big problem. Look for shorts with a drawstring waist. All the Sugoi shorts I've worn have had a drawstring.
