Having used toe cages on a Schwinn ATB for the past few years, now that I have a "real" bike (Specialized TriCross) I'm realizing that I do need more pedal contact. I don't mind buying clipless pedals, but I hate the idea of shelling out fairly big bucks for a pair of shoes that I can only use for one activity. Power Grips sound like a possible compromise, but all the reviews I've read mention men's shoe sizes. Has anyone here tried these?

I used Powergrips on my old bike that I started commuting on, a Ross 10 speed. It is a lot like riding with toe clips. You need to angle your foot to get into the strap, and the weight of the strap tends to make it rotate to the underside of the pedal. It does hold your foot on the pedal, and is easy to get out of in a hurry. They are also easy to use in icy conditions where cleat mechs may freeze. I had no problems shortening the straps enough and I wear a 37 shoe. They are good to use in the winter with warm boots. If you have any specific questions PM me.

I have them on my Mountain Bike. For some reason, I don't want to do the clipless on that bike???? Anyway, I like that I can either put my foot all the way in or I can put it just far enough forward so that the toe of my shoe is 'in'; depending on how quickly I think I may need to put my foot down.

They have worked well for me although I do have clipless on my road bike.

I'm saving for them. My housemate has them and loves riding with them. She just got home from a bar pedaling home with her PowerGrips wearing her kitten heels! :D
