Ok, so I went to what is considered a "B-C" group ride. Got there, nobody said hi or anything, pretty much stuck to their own circles---though I did run into my old economics professor who talked with me for a bit. There were about 30-35 riders, maybe 5 women.

Tom(LBS guy) showed up, told me about ride etiquette, someone whistled and away we went. The whole ride is about 35 miles, but Tom told me that we would pull back a little early cause 35 is a lot for a beginner ride. I am very proud to report that I hung in the middle of the pack the entire time I was with the group. I did almost fall over once(damn clipless!) but thankfully Tom was on the side and kept me upright. We ended up turning around and one other dude turned around with us, so we were able to talk a bit.

My entire ride ending up being 21 miles, 14.4 mph, 80 cadence. Even though I have stretched, I already admitted to Kirk(my SO) that I'm scared to sit down, cause I don't know that I could get back up :p

Anywhosits, I plan on going out with the same group next week!! I recommend any newbie to at least try the ride, cause you may surprise yourself!!

Glad you went for it and had such a great ride!!!! Sounds like you found yourself a great shop to work with, that's very nice that he stayed by your side and helped you along. Congrats!!

That's totally awesome! I'm so glad you went out and had a good experience. It's a real confidence builder. I know when I first started riding I was so nervous before every ride. Now it's not so bad.

Keep up the good work and good for you for going out there and giving it a try!

Sounds like a great time! I knew you wouldn't have any problems. Good average and cadence- I thought you were a newbie. :)

Are you planning to try the Conquer the Coast in September? DH loves the coast, so I put it on the calendar!

Yes ma'am. Conquer the Coast is my first large distance goal. LBS has even set up a training schedule for me to have me ready in time!

OH! My Mom lives in Corpus Christi, and I contemplated doing this rally last year.

Unfortunately, the budget would not allow it.

Maybe I can try again this year. Or maybe the budget won't allow it again?

Either way, it looked really cool!

I am sure you will be ready in time! Someone on WW told me about the ride and I can't wait to try it. The part about taking the ferry over to Port A sounds fun! DH and I love the ferry, we are such suckers for the dolphins. :)
