I love your signature quote!

I stole it from a cartoon in the New Yorker. Puts things nicely in perspective, I think. (what is the real threat to straight marriage, anyway?)
Feel free to use it however you like!

Thanks...we were having a little gay marriage debate on another forum, so I decided to throw it in there!

I know, what's the threat? And the politicians look SO serious about it. Perhaps they know something they're not telling us? A little self-directed confusion, perhaps? I wish they knew how ridiculous they look whining about such things.
I'd find this topic more funny if it wasn't such a breach of common dignity.

I've never understood the problem, either. It seems counter-productive to me, in fact, to discourage committed realtionships.
Perhaps if someone would explain it to me s l o w l y and carefully, I'd understand.
On second thought, please don't. I don't want to go there.

Switzerland voted for legal, registered same-sex partnerships a year ago. Yes there was some debate, but it only came from ultra-conservative and religious groupings.

Thanks for sharing, Brandy--that list is a laugh-a-minute. And I'm proud to see that it's sponsored by my alma mater, U of FL. Though, as dachshund said, the whole thing would be MORE funny if it weren't a case of someone's civil rights being threatened.

I totally agree. I really hope that when my three kids are adults, that this isn't an issue at all. I mean, it would be nice if it wasn't an issue right here, right now, but speaking as a mama...if one of them is gay or lesbian, I really hope that they are able to marry whoever they choose. With that...I'm off with said children for a week of camping. See you all when we get back!

My apologies, but I'm closing this thread.
A few months ago, there was a major blow-up here on the TE forums on this very subject. Alot of feelings were hurt and several people decided to cease participating on the forums.
There are very few topics I consider taboo here (there's plenty of OT posts and we don't shut 'em down) but I'm afraid this topic is one of the rare exceptions. (I actually find it a very interesting topic to discuss - this just isn't the place for it.)
Tailwinds,
Susan
