Has anyone ever done the Solvang Prelude? It's in November, with a 25 and 50 mile and metric century ride. I know how hilly it is around Solvang. I'd really like to try for the 50 for my big 5-0, but I'm worried that it might be too much for this hill slug :o .

I'm considering riding Solvang in November as well. What kind of weather can one expect in November in this part of Cali?

hmmm, seems like a good reason for a road trip.
There are yurt and cabin rentals at nearby Chachuma Lake park.

I've done the century and the double century in Solvang and grew up not too far from there.
The course will probably have plenty of rolling hills andmaybe something longer, but I don't imagine there'll be anything terribly steep. As for weather - expect it to be cold in the morning, and warming probably to the 70's later in the day. It should be a nice time of year; however, things will be somewhat brown on the hills.
Sounds like a great ride. Wish I could do it!

I was told by the organizer that the 25 mile is pretty flat. The 50 mile and metric are much hillier (the 50 is a different route than the 50 in March). I'm doing the 25 with some friends from the office.
Gotta check out those yurts!

I talked it over with my husband and we thought it would be a fun trip, so we'll be there. We'll probably do the metric century.
Our current plan is to stay Friday and Saturday nights and head home on Sunday. We reserved the small cabin at Cachuma Lake Park (my sweetie snores up a storm and I needs my beauty sleep, so it's nice to get a 2-room cabin). Very nice looking setup there.

I have a work conflict so we won't be going, after all. :(
We are going to take a long weekend Oct 19-22 down in San Luis Obispo and Solvang, and taking the bikes of course. Any suggestions for rides in that area ?

I'm still planning on doing the 25 (which is going to be pretty interesting since I haven't had any chance to ride lately).
Haven't dealt with hotel yet, which means we'll probably be somewhere in Lompoc

Hi laughlaugh
Please tell me what a 'yurt' is?
I'm really lost on that one.
Cheers

Hi Sally -
Go to www.google.com and type yurts in the search box
It'll bring up all sorts of links about yurts, and some pictures too.
But basically, yurts are tent-like structures that on account of their design can be quite spacious. LeeBob and I like to dream about our vacation/retirement home, which would have a yurt in the backyard as a separate guest room.
