For sale to a loving cycling home: a used pair of Shimano PD-520 SPD Pedals for $28.00. Shipping should be about $6 for USPS Priority Mail within the U.S. I'm willing to ship internationally but I'd have to get a quote from the post office.

I bought these when I got sick of taking the pedals off my mountain bike every Saturday, putting them on my road bike, then switching them back on Sunday. Plus these are much sleeker than the platform pedals on my mtb. I used the 520's on my road bike about once per week for 3 months before switching to road shoes and pedals. :D

Pedals are in great condition, but they do have some scratches on the sides from leaning the bike against walls and curbs. Cleats are currently mounted on my mtb shoes so those aren't included. If you need cleats, I can throw in some new Wellgo 98A cleats, which are SH-51 compatible, for $7.50 (half off retail price).

The pic attached is from a website. If you'd like to see the actual pedals, I'd be happy to take some pics and e-mail them to you. Post, PM or e-mail me with questions or offers!

Thanks,

~Cari

In case anyone needed any convincing, these are great reliable pedals at a great price. I already have 2 pairs myself on my road and cyclocross or I'd snag 'em.

Perfect for beginners as they have an adjustable tension screw for easy in/out. They are also double-sided so you don't have to fumble to clip in.

Lastly, these go with mountain bike shoes. MTB shoes have tread that allow you to walk fairly easily.

Thanks for your help, Quill! And you're right, they really are great pedals. :)

I should also mention that I'm selling them at about half of what they cost. Both Excel Sports and Performance Bike sell them for $55 + shipping.

So just to clarify (I'm a newbie!) ... will these work on a road bike with road shoes?

The pedals are SPD, so it depends on the road shoe. But SPD pedals are generally used for mountain biking. I know lots of people use them on road bikes, but with mtb shoes, just because they're so much easier to walk in than road shoes.

I'm using Sidi Genius 5 road shoes which come standard with the right built-in hardware for SPD, SPD-R, Look, Time, Speedplay, and, um... not sure what else. The higher-end Sidi road shoes require that you add a little adapter plate if you're using anything other than Look, I believe. If you like, let me know which road shoes you have and I'll check to see if they're compatible.

But to be honest, if you're only interested in road biking and you feel comfortable enough in road shoes, you may be better off investing in a proper road pedal. After completing my first century, I treated myself to some Look KeO pedals. I've only used them once, but so far, they feel pretty good. It took me a while to get the hang of clipping in (because road pedals are one-sided) and I was slipping around like a penguin on ice last Saturday when I went out for my first ride, but I'm sure I'll get used to the smooth sole soon enough. :D And the stiffer sole of road shoes will probably make future centuries more comfortable as well.

I have SPD pedals on all my bikes (in fact this set is on my MTB with road tires) and SPD cleats on my MTB shoes, sandals, and road shoes. My MTB has the 9?9's, and the road bike has 747's.

But I hate road shoes.

I've decided to make my old road bike into a commuter bike. This is the first step!
