My FIRST Metric Century in the Ojai Valley Century June 3rd
63 miles 3400 ft of climbing, hottest temp of ride HIGH 90's!!!
Ride time 5 hours 10 minutes..
Already looking forward to the next one.

Got to the starting point at 6:30, had to check in by 6:45 am.
My ride partner was supposed to meet me at 6:30 and NEVER showed up.
I waited until 7:40 before starting off on my own.
I was SOO nervous about riding that far on my own, but had my route sheet and was off...Ending up riding on my own most of the time, as a bunch of hammer heads passed me up, dang they ride fast!!
IT WAS HOT already!! Almost missed the first left turn DUH!
Starting Climbing after mile 3, lots of climbing in this ride!
Before getting to the first rest stop, going up towards the fire station on Casitias pass, about 3 or 4 cyclists encountered a driver in a cadilac with MAJOR ROAD RAGE!!
He was honking, screaming out the window, swerved into the bikelane like he was going to hit the riders ( I was behind the driver)
Then it turns out he called the POLICE, as they showed up at the first rest stop.!!
The Excitement for the day!!
The roads were kind of rough at some points, where was the suspension on my bike??
All in all, I had a GREAT time!! Drank plenty of water, and ate at the rest stops.Felt pretty good afterwards, and am going on a recovery ride today on the mountain bike!

MY first Century right around the corner....MAYBE!!

i WILL BE doing the metric in the three harbors and the metric for the cool breeze too!

Karen!!!!!

Awesome Job!!!! Congratulations on completing a tough first metric! I want to do three harbors really really badly but don't think my DH will stand for another day of kid watching!

I'm at a hotel so I can't spend much time on the computer but wanted to say GREAT JOB!!!!

How exiting and I can well understand your elation. My first organized ride was 35 miles and it took me the same amount of time as you. lol I now have a road bike, so I hope I never take that long again to do 35 miles.

I sure hope the police ended up giving that guy in the Cadillac a tongue-lashing or even worse. What a pity there are people like that to contend with. :(

Great job! If you just did a metric with 3500 ft of climbing, you should go for the century with us at Cool Breeze...you can totally do it! http://www.tinklebelle.com/Smilies/images/suus2wa.gif

Karen way to go! I have climbed Casitas Pass a few times... are they still doing road work thru there or is it done now???

And what happened to your ride partner???  Glad you did it anyway...

yep, every ride there are a few racers who just fly by... I just wave buh-bye and keep on with my slow spinning... there are always faster and slower people... ;)

I'll probably be up there in July sometime... my bro and family close on a new house on the 23rd and I have offered to help paint etc... :)
