happy June 1st!

(does anyone else say Rabbit Rabbit on the 1st of the month? I've only met one other who did) (where did that come from, anyway?)

I've never heard of that - but I have to admit, you made me laugh!

Rabbit, rabbit!

Rabbit rabbitt - I remember that!

That was something we used to say in elementary school - back east. I never met anyone out here who did it. I NEVER remembered to say it! Wasn't it supposed to be the first thing you said on the first day of the month?

Thanks for the memory...

Anyone else ever have a close encounter with a rabbit?? Last weekend I was flying down a hill on my road bike and heard some rustling off to the right. Next thing I knew a rabbit ran right across my path - missed the front tire by inches and scared the crap out of me! I was easily doing over 30 mph and it would not have been pretty.......................

Yeah, I was thinking - wow, Knotted must have ridden alongside a rabbit or just missed one...

I picked it up from a friend in college who was from Chicago. One day one of my patients said it, which was pretty exciting in a silly way. He couldn't remember where he learned it.

http://dendritics.com/scales/white-rabbits.asp discusses the matter at some length (including debate over whether "rabbit rabbit" or "white rabbit, white rabbit" is proper).

Acknowledging that wikipedia is not considered a "reputable" source by many, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbit_rabbit has some info about it.

And, just because last week Google simply did not *have* an article (I had it in front of me; student said he'd gotten it online, so search terms should have gotten me there... which they *did* on Alta Vista)... which got me to an album title of that name ("rabbit rabbit") by the Hattifatteners. Maybe we should say "hattifatteners, hattifatteners" instead; it has a good ring!

Okay, now I really really will be productive...

Geonz, I consider that to have been HIGHLY productive.

I still say that! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've gotten my husband to say it too, although he had never heard it growing up.

I remember that! Although I have no idea who said it or where...I lived a bunch of places, growing up.

I thought you had a major rabbit encounter, too. Thanks for the much needed laugh. Now everyone at work will think I've lost my mind. Bwaaahhaaaahhaaaa!

In my neighborhood in northeast NJ (Sopranos country), we said it with an Elmer Fudd accent: Wabbit Wabbit! :D

I knew what that was about! Only we say "White Rabbits". If you say it first, then the other person has to buy you a present. My husband has a ex-student who often calls the school and leaves him a "white rabbits" message on the first of the month... :D

Oh great...my obsessive/compulsive nature is telling me I'm going to have to do this from now on! :p

I always thought you had to say "Rabbit Rabbit" the last thing before going to sleep on the last day of the month, and the first thing upon waking up on the first of the month. The former is easy, because you can just say it again if you have to say something else before you fall asleep. The latter is harder because it's hard to remember when you first wake up.

Now I just say it when I think of it around the first of each month.

That is a lyric from one of my favorite songs and I never understood what that part meant. Thanks!!!

Ok, so now someone help me understand the 13th finger line. :p

Jawbreaker - Jinx Remover
Blew twelve and kissed the thirteenth finger.
"Rabbit, rabbit," on the first.
I hold my breath.
Did tricks I hoped you wouldn't notice.
A superstitious hyperrealist.
I'll make you mine.

Rabbit, Rabbit, how funny. I use to work with this guy about twenty years ago and we always tried to get each other on the first of the month with the Rabbit rabbit. The loser had to buy the other one a coffee. Thanks for a great memory.

That is SO funny! My husband is from the west coast and he says "rabbit rabbit rabbit" on the first of every month. Even if we're sleeping in different cities, I'll get a message on my cellphone with that phrase! He's got me doing it too!

My first thought was when i saw this thread was "gee didn't we used to say that at our girl guide/pathfinder campfire when the smoke came our way???"

hmmm..must ask my friend what the actual word was then...quite curious ....

When campfire smoke gets in our eyes, we always say "I hate rabbits" or "I hate white rabbits".

I have no idea why....
