As I was waiting for the Ferry for the trip from Manly to Circular Quay (Sydney), I saw the oddest thing.
2 people with backpacks running into the wharf, followed by a camera man, asking how/where to catch the ferry. I saw a flash of a yellow card/envelope in their bumbags. They soon ran to catch the jetcat.
Not long after two more people with backpacks ran into the wharf, followed by a camera man, asking the same question. They soon embarked on the ferry. As my ferry pulled out of the wharf, I saw 2 more backpack wearing people running towards the wharf.
While waiting at the gangway as the ferry approched the city, I had a conservation with a camera man. He had an american accent. He said it is was his first time in Sydney, but he won't be able to see much of it as he would be on the run. I made a comment on how you couldn't pick a better day to see Sydney(with the good weather). I happened to have my bike with me, and he asked where I was riding & said he rides at home when he can.
He was a bit coy of why/where he was following two travellers around Sydney with a tv camera. But it sounds very much like "The Amazing Race" or something very similar.
It made dragging myself out of bed & on to the bike, more than worth it.:D

You're right, it probably is " The Amazing race". I assume it's series 10. Which is pretty cool, as I'm a fan of the show. The idea of travelling the world & doing strange dares sounds really fun.
Oh, and the host "Phil" happens to be from NZ (like myself). Although on the show, he appears to have completely lost his kiwi accent.
So if Series 10 includes a 2 guys with asian appearance, with grey/Kharki patterned backpacks & the show does go to Manly (Sydney)? Well then I definitely saw a TV show in the making:)

Neat! I will be watching the next Amazing Race. Say, did the cameraman film you on your bike?

He was having a little break, so I didn't think the camera was on. So I proberly won't get to see myself on TV, there goes my 5 miniutes of fame.
The chance meeting confirms my fav part of being a cyclist. People seem more open to starting coversations with me; particulary if they are cyclists themselves. Or they will offer to help carry my bike down railway stations steps (which happened yesterday).

Very cool on seeing the Amazing Race!
And I know what you mean about friendly cyclists!! I am amazed at how many cyclists nod or wave when they pass by me, even the serious-looking roadie types. It's like they see me as their equal hee hee... Makes me feel good. :) I also notice that teens on bikes are much friendlier and more polite than ones who are walking...

Enzed - You lucky so-and-so!
You live in Manly? Sweeeet!
When you're having a really bad day, just remember there's some of us who'd love your commute across the water!
How is the cycling around Sydney? I imagine it's pretty hairy in the city itself, but nice once you get out into the suburbs/bays?

I'm not lucky enough to live in Manly itself, It's 8Km down the road from my shared unit.
On Sundays, I treat myself with a ferry trip to/from city & get some riding done on the otherside of the harbour. Morning sunday traffic is pretty light & makes for good riding.
It's not a bad life on this side of the ditch.
Yes, everythings expensive, the traffic can be heavy, the public transport could be better, John Howard is still Prime Minister & I have to put up with cockroaches in the warmer months.
But I live near a string of beaches, running from Palm beach (for the rich), surf beaches & Manly beach (with yellow sand, tourists & more surfers)
In the evenings I can ride to North Head overlooking the harbour, & watch the sunset over the city.

The cycling isn't too bad. There are plenty of side roads you can take, a few shared pathways & most drivers are alright. The main roads are doable if you take your place in the lane & don't show any fear. There is a national park around 17km north of my place (with some big climbs & fast downhill rides) & the North Head road is almost free of traffic.
But that's not to say, I don't get homesick for NZ.
