I'm not in Oklahoma, but hopefully other states will catch on... This is the latest Roadbike Rider...
"---Let's go national! Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry has signed a bill into law making it a finable offense for a driver to pass a cyclist closer than three feet. Oklahoma is believed to be only the third state to have a safe-passing law. It also simplifies what a bicycle is, clarifies where cyclists should ride on the road, removes a requirement that cyclists ride on sidewalks, and establishes fines if a motorist hits a cyclist. Credit for this advancement in cyclists' rights goes to the Oklahoma Bicycle Coalition."

One of them is Utah. Don't know what the other is. It's still new here and largely ignored.

Ooohh, I wanna move back. That's suprising, actually, because compared to Alabama, Oklahoma has a lot less cyclists. But hey, finally a reason to be proud to be from there. Now if we can just get this into other states.

I knew Brad Henry was good for something :D

I was so excited when I read that - I told one of my buddies here and it sparked a very - ummmmmm - heated discussion about bikers being on the road in the first place (he is Not a bikie!).

With New Mexico, especially Albuquerque becoming more and more bike-friendly, I could only hope our state passes a law like that also!

Yes, I would love it if Virginia would do that as well, but we're a long way from being there. My SO and I almost got clipped twice a few days ago - and not because they couldn't see us!

A similar bill was proposed in Texas last year, but the state legislature didn't approve it. Maybe someday....
