After 2 months of paying on him, I will be getting fitted and taking him home tomorrow!! Tonight I'm picking up a helmet, spare tubes, tire levers, a pump, and a hex wrench set from a local sports shop. Tomorrow, during fitting, I'm exchanging stock pedals for campus pedals & getting a woman's seat & clipless recessed cleats(probably Shimano's).

Is there anything I'm forgetting to get??

A seatbag to put your essentials in whilst out on the road.
And a bike computer maybe?
Oh, and don't forget the great big, wide mouthed frog grin as you leave the store with your new baby!
Congratulations Pikato - how excited must you be right now?!! :D

Congrats on the new bike! I have an OCR3 too - yay another Giant rider!

How about lights if you plan on doing any riding at night?

Ok, last night I picked up my shiny new red helmet(to match the bike of course) but I have a few more questions:

1) Buying CO2 & stuff for patch kits, will any brand work??There is a patch kit at Target, made by Schwinn, would it work for road bikes?? Or do I need to buy some form of specialty patch kit??

2) Gloves: I have been trying on different brands of gloves & I think the small size still seem to big for my hands (I have short stubby fingers). The cutouts come over my knuckles, is that how they are supposed to fit?

you can buy your CO2 cartriges anywhere.. just make sure if you need threaded... you get threaded (most likely will have to be a bike shop for threaded... for non-threaded... i use the paintball ones from walmart!)

patch kits... not sure about target ones... i usually get mine at the lbs... they aren't too expensive... last time i got some.. i switched from the ones with a glue tube in them... to the park "glueless" ones... haven't had to use them yet though

not sure what is happening with your gloves.... are you trying women specific ones? if the men's smalls are too big... try womens... if the women's are too small... you have really small hands! :) they do make kids gloves... just not sure how good the bike shops are at stocking them!

we are anxiously awaiting pictures!

LOL, I'm picking him up in 3 hours, so I'm not sure how he is yet.

I spent yesterday at Academy(sports store in Southern U.S.) looking at everything trying to determine what I needed, if I was unsure about something, I didn't buy it, so today I'm going to LBS picking up Oscar and looking at what they have. Then I'll be attempting my virgin ride<-- boyfriend is ready to take pictures, lol.

Yes, I was trying men's gloves on, I couldn't find women's sizes, so that may be the issue right there.

I'm heading home(near Houston) this weekend & plan on stopping by an REI to see what stuff they have.

Mind you, I'm trying to be seriously professional about this, but part of me is oh-so tempted to buy a bell that is shaped like a pig & put it on my bike, lol, but I don't want to ruin my street cred just yet:p

I got him, I got HIM, He's MINE!!!

He's so pretty, he's got a female seat (it's a Serfas brand????) and Shimano 324 pedals. During fitting, I hopped on & Junior(LBS guy) told me "Wow, it's like it was made for you!" All he had to do was lower the seat & it was a perfect fit!!

Slight downside in that I didn't get shoes. They didn't have my size-I wear a size 6. I told them I was going to Houston this weekend & was gonna look there if I can't find any, then I'll have LBS order them.

I was driving Kirk insane, by my giddiness, but he did go with me to ride it around for a bit. He got some cute pics that I'll put up tomorrow.

Ok, that's my story, thanks y'all!!

I bought the ocr 3 march 1st. I love it. It fit like a glove for me as well. Then as a pre fathers day/ birthday gift my kids got hubby an ocr3 as well. We are loving life. I can't bike enough cause work just seems to get in the way!
let me know how you like it.

LOL, see, I knew it!! Kirk(my boyfriend, who was taking the pictures) told me I was crazy that everything was matching, but I kept telling him "It's the little accents that will be noticed":D

And the gloves are Trek XS womens, so it was nice to know I didn't have super freakishly small hands, I didn't want to wear children's gloves!!

i'm glad you were able to find gloves! and that they aren't children's gloves! lol! yep... it's the little things that personalize your bike and make it YOURS, too!

when it's time for new tires... you should look into getting the ones with a red stripe on them! that would look HOT!

red bikes are just so flashy! gotta LOVE 'em!!!!!!!!

Nice ride, Pikato!! I love all the matching stuff, too. Boys just don't know about cycling fashion. ;)

Gorgeous Bike!!!!! Enjoy! Enjoy!....and I will add that I love my red bike, and like you I try to match every item, helmet, gloves, along with clothes when possible. I drew the line with my PI Whisper jacket as I wanted screaming yellow so I am seen on cloudy days. See you are not the only one, and I am sure there are plenty of others.

Hi and congrats on your new bike! I wanted to tell you that I just bought a new seat for my H yesterday and it is a Serfas seat. I think it is really nice and was hoping to try it in my bike today but it's raining so that will have to wait. But boy, it's so comfy feeling and what I especially like about it is that the insides are not hard steel but a flexible plastic type of stuff that will have some 'give' to it. My H has no butt so he complains all the time about his bike seat so when the guy in the store recommened this seat I was all over it.

Let me know how you like yours. :)

LOVE the bike Pikato!!! Congratulations! AND, I also think you should get the cow bell! Men don't know anything (at least non-cycling men!) I got some handlebar tape that I liked (to match the bike and some of my jerseys  ) and my DH totally made fun of it.... BUT, at Cruisin' the Conejo 3 men and 1 woman rode by and commented on my 'cool bar tape'. So, of course I had to tell DH about that right away! Definately make your bike your own, its much more fun that way!!!

I can't wait to hear about your new adventures with Oscar!

Tracy :D

ps. I'm w/Cali, look into some tires w/red! I would get some w/color on mine but I'm so afraid of getting a flat that I've got kevlar tires on mine and I haven't found those in color yet!
