I've mentioned this guy to SK and maybe to V - there's this super cool old guy, Gerd, who rides double centuries. He has been at the last 3 I have ridden.

At Knoxville, he came up behind me and my husband as we were climbing Howell Mountain Rd. "Hi, honey, how ya doin'?" he said to me. We chatted a bit climbing the mountain and then he went on. He finished well ahead of us, though he'd had 3 flat tires. (And we weren't exactly slow!)

This guy is built like Levi Leipheimer: slight and strong.

At Davis on Saturday, he hopped on DH's wheel going towards Cardiac, and I followed behind him. He was strong and consistent in a 20+ mph paceline. I expect he again finished this ride before us. We'd seen him the night before in Wheelworks complaining how he'd taco'ed his wheel. In a paceline. Riding to Chicago.

Well, I just looked him up on the Triple Crown website. He is 73 years old. He's done 27 double centuries in the last 4 years.

Now there's something to aspire to!!

Aren't you glad you're starting now? You have 34 years to peak.

34 years to do 23 more doubles. I think I can do that!

Wow! You sure see a _lot_ of old guys like that, though.

(For a minute, I thought, from your title, you were going to say you had gastro-esophogeal reflux disease!)

Ha! That's what I thought, too.

At the tri this weekend, the last medal category was Men, age 70-99. The winner was Kirby. The only guy in the category was Kirby. Peggy, one of the race organizers, was sitting next to me on the grass. We'd both medalled in our age group. As we clapped, she said, "I want to be like Kirby when I'm that old."

It's my plan--get old enough that I win in my age group all the time. But there are all these TE-type women out there who will still be competing, too! :p
