Torn ligament

My husband did an endo on he's bike about a week and half ago. He heard a pop when he wreched he's pinky finger. He thought he broke it. This was the same week he's boat sank in the ocean by the way!
We went and got x-rays, there was nothing. The dr said he probably did dislocate the finger and ripped some ligaments. But they couldn't tell by the x-rays. He's finger is still a bit swollen and he can move it back an forth a bit but if he hits it it really hurts him.(Big baby) so any way he is debating on weather to go back to the Dr's. The dr had said after a week if he still couldn't move it and it was swollen they could do an ultrasound of the finger. Has anyone ever had anything like this? Have we not given this enough time to heal. It was the Dr assistant by the way. I just don't know if it is a waste of time to go back.

I'm real big on telling folks to call their doc's office, tell them what's up, and see what they have to say. You don't get charged for phone calls, and usually they can give you good idea of how things are going.

A lot of the folks we see in our clinic are intimidated by doc's offices and don't like to call. Hey, that's what their staff is for! Give 'em a call, and if you feel guilty like you've wasted their time or something, bring them chocolate.

My husband did a similar thing, except he doesn't know how he did it. It didn't hurt as much as you are describing, but it did affect the mobility of his finger. When it persisted, he finally went to a hand surgeon. He had ruptured a ligament and was told that he would probably have some permanant loss of mobility without surgery. However, the surgeon suggested a splint and PT for a couple weeks and then re-evaluate. Dan followed his instructions to the letter, never needed surgery and now has full mobility.
