View Full Version : Wondering whether to celebrate or cry

Monday morning I woke up wondering which side of the family I got the insanity gene from. I was wondering this because I had decided to register for Lotoja, the 206 mile bike race from Logan, Utah to Jackson Hole, WY. I takes place on Sep. 9.
But alas, the race filled up on Friday...I was just a couple of days late to register!
So, now I'm dealing with some mixed emotions...a little happy I don't have to live through the suffering mountain climbs, and disappointed that I can't be a part of it.
I am on the waiting list though, but really don't expect anyone to drop out and let me in.

lol - welllll let me see, you could cry coz you didn't make the registration and celebrate by riding as a bandit! ;) It would mean carrying your own food and providing your own SAG but man - what a ride!

so: should we cross our fingers for you or share in your relief it was filled? :)

Hmmm...I know someone else in this situation (hellloooo CyclaSutra!). She's also on the waiting list. But why not consider joining me at the Desperado Dual (http://www.desperadodual.com/) in Panguitch? It's not as competitive and is apparently a great first double. I'm hoping CS will join the fray if she doesn't get in to LOTOJA.

It's always good to be wanting more :-) Maybe the weather will be abominable and you can either go anyway (because there will be noshows) or be grateful! Or... get on the waiting list... somebody's bound to weenie out...

Auntie K, this happened to me.

I registered for the waiting list at about 2 p.m. on Monday. I don't know how many people have to drop out so that I could get in, so I, too, am not holding my breath. I am instead planning to head down to Panguitch with Yellow for the Desperado Dual.

I do have some LOTOJA experience, though. I trained for it last summer and dropped out just 30-something miles in, when the sleet started turning to snow. Half the field dropped, which is why I think a lot of people want redemption. The 1,000-cyclist field filled a full six weeks earlier than last year.

But don't reach for that doughnut yet! Desperado is two weeks EARLIER than LOTOJA, so that means two things. Perhaps a lesser chance of _snow_, and less time to train!

It'll be my first double, so I am psyched and scared and motivated, but I'm sort of glad I'm doing the Utah ride instead. They DO time you, but it's not a "race." LOTOJA is just too full of uberathletes, and their skinny, hairless butts do nothing for my self-esteem.

Oh AuntieK!

I am SO sad for you! Was this the relay or the single event? You never know with waiting lists. Don't give up yet!

BTW, you ARE crazy :p

Auntie K, I got a crazy e-mail today from LOTOJA! The subject line:
"You are in!?!"
I got off the waiting list and into LOTOJA! Last-minute freak-outs aside, I am totally up for it! Did you get in? My "team" disentigrated, so maybe if you ride it we could try to ride together some.

I registered Cat 4 women.

WOO Hoo! 206 miles of fun, coming up on Sept. 9...
