Hey, we only have to log another 5,106 miles to pass "The Rapid Wheelmen" and get into the top 10 clubs on www.bikejournal.com

Team Estrogen is #11 at the moment.

Let's go! Every mile counts! Yay Team Estrogen! (I was NEVER a cheeleader, can you tell? :D )

I just logged my 18 mile coffee-cruise. I had a short latte and a big mouthful of Clif Snot. mmmmm. It was the longest ride so far on my new Speedplay Frogs. Everyone was right, clipless is so much easier than I expected!

OK! OK! I signed up and added all my miles. I wish they had a category for "City hybrid bike". I don't like that my Larkspur falls under "comfort". She's a tough, fast, hard working bike. Well, you guys know that. Fun to be logging my miles with the rest of you.

Latte and Cliff Shot. chocolate? That's a tasty snack. L.

I have a ride to log in- 15 miles from yesterday. I'll have another one for tomorrow - hmmm 65-88 miles. Not sure yet what distance I'll be going! (See the Mines Rd thread in California and you'll know why!    )

If I sign up for Bike Journal, will it let me log in miles retroactively, for miles since January 1, for instance? None of the screens I visited indicated whether or not I could do that...

Oh, yeah, you can either log them as "bulk miles", or put them in for each date. It won't let you put them in for the future, though, as I discovered when I tried to enter May 4 as May 14. L.

I signed up the other day, but I'll be working on my mileage just for you ;) So far I only have 21.6 miles on my bike, but I'm going to beg Grandma to watch the kids for me tomorrow so I can ride, then I should be able to ride on Thursday when dh is off. I really need to find someone to watch the kids on Friday because I've decided I need to ride 30 miles on my 30th birthday. :D

I think you can. Just put the date in the section where it asks for it on the "add a ride" page.

SadieKate

Starfish, you can add bulk miles to catch up retroactive miles. Otherwise, you'll need to add each ride individually.

Great, thanks!

OK, women, here's another question. I'm very new to the TE boards. Should I log in my miles only since joining TE, or since January 1st? Yes, I really am this geeky to ask about this. Almost seems like an ethical question if we're competing against other teams. Wanna be a clean team! ;-)

OK. I've added my 43 miles. Now I'll have to get my bike assembled so I can go out and ride some more. ;)
(I'd add some for all those hours in spin class, but wouldn't know how to guesstimate them, and then too ... what're the ethics of that?)

I'm already with another club on Bikejournal. I have also joined TE on BJ today. I don't see how to add my bulk miles to TE, however. I see that you can move your miles, but I don't want to do that because I want to keep my miles with my other club, too.

Any suggestions? I have nearly 800 miles this year so far. I had planned to do a 50-miler today, but got caught up working in my garden and just could not stop! The bulk of my miles come from my 28-mile round-trip commute.

Looks like we'reup to number nine.... I rode in the 49 degree rain today and I'm still trying to figure out when it's going to be uncomfortable. Maybe it's just the Xtracycle but it was still fun! I have to drive the car some tomorrow 'cause I'm cat-sitting an elderly feline who needs many trips to the vet http://www.resourceroom.net/pcc/images/PeaceSmile.gif

.... and I got a camera for my birthday! (this isn't from it, though). Soon as I figure it out...

Starfish: the choice is yours my friend. I didn't know about TE or BJ when I first started riding but I added the bulk miles just as soon as I found out. We'll take whatever miles we can get!!

and Geek: ROFLMAO about the Red Shirts.....oh yes - you will find quite a few Tek-Heads on this board. My only question: when the Red Shirts go for a ride, how ya'll gonna pick which one doesn't come back?.....I mean since ya'll will be a Red Shirt? :p

I guess we figure there's more safety in numbers.... and since we're not taking any command-level officers with us, we're probably safer than most of our counterparts :D

Of course, we've all accepted that we're expendable, so I guess we'll just draw straws if it comes to it :p

Hi there all... well, finally got my A into G and posted my kms for the year 2006

1356.42 km (only about 840 miles)

It is over 66 hours of ride time... wow... interesting to have that calculation sitting there!

I see as a club, TE is still sitting in 8th place with 54,900 miles!!!

Way to go ladies!
(only 4232 miles to reach current 7th place holders...)

Do I enter my rides for 2005... or the total for 2005 rather, not each individual ride - or is it not worth it?

I put my miles in, but I am not sure if I did it right. I put TE as my affiliate and plugged in my miles for the year and checked off "bulk". Let me know if there is anything else I need to do. This should contribute 770 miles to the team.

~ JoAnn

PS, I will try to keep it up per ride from now on. BJ is a new one for me. :)

You know, that's a really good idea :D

The really funny part is, all the security guards here just switched to their summer uniform, which is a red polo shirt and black pants. And they have no idea why we were cracking up about that for the first two weeks :p

I joined BJ yesterday and did the same thing....hopefully that's the correct way of adding miles to TE. So far this year I seem to have done over 1400km (~840 miles). I didn't think I had gone that far already! Sleepriding, maybe?

I deleted my bulk entry for TE. Sorry, but BJ was double counting my mileage because I have two clubs. I tried the filters, but I could not get it to work right. While I would like to have 1600 miles so far, I only have 800.

So until someone can let me know how to have two clubs and one set of miles, then I'm sticking with my local club.

Raven: you can add or miles or not for 2005.....it's truly up to you. I think if you look under your profile there is a place to log in 2005 miles as bulk. and welcome!!

Jo: you did beautifully my friend! and welcome welcome!

Tulip: the only way I know that you can do that is to set up another ID on BJ and enter your 2nd club and log the miles there. You can email Slantz and let us know what he says - I know several women here belong to more than one club.

and where is our fearless leader Nuthatch? I know it got cold in the Midwest recently - did we lose her in a snow drift??

We had a long discussion about clubs and mileage and putting miles in twice last year on the Bike Journal. I think the consensus was you only ride those miles ONCE so counting them twice is like double dipping. For now it's put those miles in one place and keep the integrity in!

Posted back in Feb 2006 by Slantz on bikejournal as his design plan. It will allow miles to go towards more than one club. The changes have not been implemented yet.

I have pretty much decided on a course of action here:

1) Your rides will count toward all clubs you belong to.
Pros:
1. No more misconceptions about why your individual total in your club is different than your individual stats - I think most people are interested in your total distance (or other cumulative stats) for the whole year, not just the miles you have somehow "chosen" should be associated with that club. My arguement here is that there is no standard by which one chooses to associate those miles (it's subjective), thereby making comparisons within and among clubs very inconsistent. If all rides count to all your clubs, the rules are straightforward and simple.
2. No more reason to sign up for multiple profiles to log your miles to multiple clubs. This is causing problems in the individual stats and would no longer be an issue or temptation. I can then apply a hard rule about only allowing one profile per physical person.
3. Keeping track of these totals will be simpler in the database and the ability to pull club stat information will be streamlined (less processing power to render the club stats page)
4. You will still have the club association field in your journal, so you can pull up reports on each club as desired using the journal filters or enhanced stats. So those who still want to track/view their rides by club can.

2) Clubs will need to designate if they are local or "virtual"/associations. This will allow everyone to choose how they wish to view the club stats - with all clubs included, virtual clubs only, or local clubs only. Multiple views could be saved similar to the journal filters for easy access.

I appreciate everyone's input, but I think this will be the cleanest solution.

Also, my apologies to those who feel the rides should be credited to one club only, but I hope this solution will, in the end, provide more structure to this currently "grey" area. Thanks in advance for your understanding.

PS: This solution will still work if we determine additional changes need to be made to allow club administrators/ride leaders the option to have more control over what constitutes a club ride (ability to exclude certain rides from the club totals) as per maschwab's suggestions - I consider this a separate matter.

keep the integrity in!

i agree with you at this point in time.. the way the forum is now set up (having to have 2 usuer names to have miles go to two clubs)... however... slantz has a much different perception.... he has no problem whatsoever AT THIS TIME with people having more than one log in... as several times it has been brought to his attention... and he basically said... fine... they can have 2 (or more)... there are several duplicates at the top.. which bump everyone down....

hopefully.... once he does the above (doesn't seem a priority to him.. he'd rather add other stuff.. but hey.. it's not my board!) then hopefully he'll enforce the one log in per phycal person!

Thanks Caligurl. I'm just a count it once kinda person- although I understand the "virtual" clubs as they are just that- not real. I just have a hang up about miles counting for two local clubs, etc.

Thanks SK- I don't recall seeing this resolution. It was a controversial topic with lots of pros and cons.

Wonder when he will set it up?

SadieKate

I wish Slantz would take all the mileage comparisons off the front page. They're silly. Nobody rides the same ride over the same terrain unless there are specific criteria and rules for a competition. It's like comparing avg speed over a flat course and a hilly course of two different lengths. It just doesn't make any sense to be worrying about comparing apples to oranges when you have no idea what fruit is on the other side of the fence.

Thanks for posting all the insider info on BJ. I really like the site. Since I'm sticking with my local club, when I reach a milestone, perhaps I'll post it here!

I'm up to 811 miles as of today after my 28 mile round trip commute. My goal for the year was 1000 miles, but will reach that by June. There are some benefits to setting the bar low!

Anyways, I hope the mileage thing gets worked out. In the meantime, I'll just go ride my bike.
