I know we've talked about cycling books before I finally read "The Race" while I was in Scottsdale. Stayed up late to finish it and then had to rush to the bookstore on my way to the airport to get the sequel, "The Tour." I just had to add my 2 cents because I've thoroughly enjoyed them.
Did you also know Dave Shields, the author, will attend events? Pretty cool. You can find more here:http://www.daveshields.com/. I'm hoping to get my books autographed while I'm in SLC (his hometown).
Susan, have you considered carrying bicycling-related books on TE?

I just read The Race, and have started The Tour. Very entertaining!! Unfortunately, I can only read a few pages at once before bed because I get up too freakin' early, so I pass out by about 10 pm.

oh thanks for the recommends! I have read Lances books and a couple of Bob Rolls... will check these out too...
I also want to pick up "Dancing on the Pedals: The Found Poetry of Phil Liggett"... have heard good things about it and hoping to gift it to cycling friends for Xmas...:)

As a result of Sadie Kate's message so much traffic spilled over into my Web site that I had to check out what was going on. Thanks for the positive vibes! I live in an estrogen filled house (a wife and three daughters) so a place like this feels like home to me.
Anyway, I hope that if any of you read my books you'll drop me a line. The easiest way to contact me is through my Web site. My writing career is making big strides thanks to enthusiastic readers like Sadie Kate. Many, many thanks for spreading the word!
Tailwinds,
Dave Shields

My Mother just sent me a book about 4 New Zealanders who toured France around the route of the first TdF 1903
Chasing the Chimney Sweep - A joyride around the first Tour de France by Selwyn Parker, Penguin 2006
Pleasant and light this book really captures the French countryside and people. I did my own little one-month tour 25 years ago "toute seule, avec ma bicyclette et une tente " and the book brought back so many memories

I just tried to find that book (Chimney Sweep). It won't be released here until 30 August. Phoooey!

He said he'll take his daughters with him to see the goings on.

I think I have the anniversary gift for my husband next week! We don't have a lot to spend on each other, so this will be perfect. He already read both of Lance's book, some other cycling book about the TdFand is working on "Heft on Wheels". I think these will be a good addition.
I bought him "Dancing on the Pedals" for his Christmas stocking. It lives on our coffee table, we love it!
