Hi Everyone!!

I'm new to posting, but I've been an avid reader of the message board for quite some time. I've been training for awhile now for my first Tri, and it is on May 14, very soon!! I'm starting to get excited (a little nervous), and I'm sure I'll have a few questions, but my question for right now is about tri shorts....

I've owned my beautiful Trek bike for a few short months, and every ride I've done, I've obviously used bike shorts with some good padding. I know for the tri, I should probably use tri shorts rather than changing out of a wet suit, putting on bike shorts, putting on running shorts, etc., but I'm a little nervous because they seem to have so much less padding than my bike shorts.

Is it really that big of a deal? Am I going to be really sore during? I'm not really interested in adding any kind of padding to my seat. Thoughts? And tri short recommendations??

Thanks Ladies!!!!

Lesley :)

When I do triathlons I wear bike shorts with a very thin chamois. I wear the shorts over my swimsuit and under my wetsuit on the swim, then after taking my wetsuit off just put a shirt on. Even though my shorts were sold as bike shorts rather than tri shorts the chamois is not much thicker (if any) than the one in tri shorts so is comfortable enough to run in

everybody is different, but that's what works for me

How long is the race?
One thing I notice in my races is that I'm so busy in the "moment" of racing that my mind doesn't even go there. For anything under a half IM I think you will be fine. The bike portion will be done before you know it.

I agree with kiwi and RM. Running in thick-chamois'd biking shorts would be worse than biking in thin-chamois'd tri shorts. Welcome to the boards! L.

Thanks everyone! The event is a sprint, so it's short. I'm going to go out and buy a pair tomorrow and test them out for my brick workout tomorrow. Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend. It's BEAUTIFUL here...hope the weather stays as perfect for next weekend's race! :)

This weekend I rode my bike downtown (8.5 mi), ran a 5K one day, and walked a 5K the next day, then rode home. I wore my tri shorts under regular capri gym pants (still chilly here in Chi town). I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable that was. I was worried that the thinner chamois wouldn't be enough for the rides. It was fine. I would've liked more chamois for riding, but it was perfect for the run and walk.
