View Full Version : June Secret Sister Sign Up

As April draws to a close, that must mean June is just around the corner!

Step right up to sign up for your June Secret Sister :). The cut off date to sign up is May 21st. If you happen to find this thread after May 21st and want a secret sister, your chance to participate will come for the month of July as we'll be changing secret sisters each month.

Based on the previoux SS threads, the suggested price range is $10-15. I think we were gonna try themes for each month. Since June marks the start of summer, which is gonna be a-sizzlin, how about a water bottle and a favorite energy bar/ snack?

I'll send out a reminder a few days before the deadline.

Thanks,
Lani

Thanks for taking this on. Sign me up - I'll pm you my address. I like the theme idea - any theme is fine with me.

How do you pronounce your name?

This sounds like a blast! I searched the other ss threads, I take it we each get a ss and send them something from the theme for the month. Do we send it anonymously?

Sign me up for June, please! (I'll PM you my addy)

Sign me in also. an I would also like to say that I have received a gift form my SS, but I haven't received any address to send my gift for my SS although I sent PM  so please don't forget me this time cause I would also like to cheer someone up
and I have suggestion, is it possible to have same SS for several months? For me it is much more simple to send several gifts at once cause the postage from Croatia costs almost like the gift I think to buy. thanx

Thanks to those of you who already signed up for a secret sister and PMed or gave me your address!

fishdr... my name is pronounced like "lah-nee" - it's hawaiian (rhymes with bonnie). how's your name pronounced? it's spelled so close to mine. thanks so much for helping smiley with how to PM me her address! very sweet of you as i couldn't get to the computer til tonight.

KnottedYet... good question about sending it anonymously. i didn't participate in the last one, so can someone who participated in the last one pipe in? I'm guessing secret sister is like secret santa, but does the post office allow the mailing of anonymous packages these days? i'd kinda like to know who sent me stuff so i can get to know them more, but that's just my 2 cents.

iFKA... i think the idea behind switching secret sisters each month was so that newbies could participate sooner and that people could opt out or in sooner due to finances for the month. i totally understand about the cost of postage from croatia though. i personally don't have an issue if you want to have the same secret sister for a few months to save on postage costs. i could just tell whoever ends up in charge of july and as well as august that you already have a secret sister that you sent stuff too for those months, but will need secret sisters to send you stuff. hopefully it won't end up being too confusing though. thoughts anyone?????

Polly... while i didn't participate in the last secret sister, ditto what nanci said. all countries welcome and not necessarily matched with a sister from the same country, as it's hard to guarantee that there will be an even amount of people from each country. hopefully you're still interested in participating.

Anyway, thanks for playing everyone and keep the sign ups coming! Oh, and if you signed up but haven't PMed me your info (i.e. you haven't got a PM from me), please do so when ya get the chance. Otherwise, I'll bug ya around cut off time.

LL - We pronounce our names the same - cool!
edit: I'm a dork - I saw "lah" and thought "lay". I pronounce my name lay-nee. Duh...

My gift was ordered from TE, so they were the return address.

In the last SS swap, I used my actual address, but put SS for name. I figured that the recipient could figure out who I was if they really wanted to search, but not if they didn't want to know.

For those of you who signed up to participate in the June Secret Sister, check your Private Messages for your SS info. PM me if you previously signed up and didn't get one cause I space cadeted and messed up.

Sorry it took a few days... I planned to blast it out Tuesday evening but there was a serious power outage in my 'hood that lasted for almost 12 hours.

The theme for June was water bottles (if you can find something local to your area all the better, but no worries if not) and a favorite snack. Try and mail your packages in the first week of June or so, so that everyone can get their surprises.

Thanks for playing everyone! Does anyone want to handle the July Secret Sister signup? Otherwise I can do it for another month.

Thanks LL for all of your work. Why don't we keep the same ss for three months like before, just change what we are sending? Much less work I would think.

DrBee
05-26-2006, 06:56 AM
I agree! That would be much simpler. If you get new signees, then pair them up as they come in and include them in the current round.

uforgot and fishdr, if you search under secret sisters, there was a thread on secret sisters where people talked about the issues of having the same secret sister for 3 months.

there were financial concerns about being locked into having to participate for 3 months, when income may not always allow to participate for those 3 months. in that thread, it seemed like a lot of people preferred the flexibility of being able to opt in or out on a monthly basis, rather than on a quarterly basis, for the financial reason; because it also allowed newbies a shorter wait period to join (fishdr - I liked your point about how to incorporate newbies which addresses that concern); and because it allowed TE gals more chances of getting to know others. based on those reasons, it was suggested that we TRY a monthly secret sister, rather than a quarterly one.

when i signed up to take on the secret sister signup from the last person who ran it, and having not participated in it before, i was just trying to follow those guidelines. Having tried the monthly approach, i've been getting a mixed bag of comments on it, and it seems like there just is no easy answer on how to run this thing. there were some people who live out of the USA and wanted a secret sister for 3 months due to postage costs. i had no problem with it. and it worked out cause there were other people who were in the same situation. on the other hand, there also were other people who had been wanting to join in, but could only do it for a month, and were really happy and excited to be able to finally participate this time around.

the only thing i can think of is 2 secret sisters lists - a quarterly one and a monthly one. but i could see that getting really confusing too...

anyway... whether secret sisters should revert to being a quarterly thing or continue being a monthly thing can only be answered by the people who participate in it, so what do you say TE gals... perhaps we should vote on it for once and for all cause it seems like the debate could just keep going and going.

Makes sense LL. I had forgotten about the financial issues. Monthly makes more sense in that respect. At the same time I understand the shipping issues. I'm happy either way. Makes no real difference to me. :)

Hi,
I finally found a bottle from one of the local bike shops that has it's logo printed on it and I sent it off with a package of one of my new favorite ride snacks. I hope my secret sister likes it - it has to travel across the US so it will take a few days. Has anyone else gotten their packages? I too am still eagerly waiting (much like my secret sister - who will be getting hers soon).

I haven't sent mine, either, because, as Lise knows, I suck!! But really, I have the bottle, and the treat, but I want to get something else, and some pretty wrapping- so if you're my SS, sorry, but you'll have to wait until conditions for present-sending are perfect!

Wow, I hit the SS jackpot! I just got my package from my SS and it contained not one but two--count 'em, two--water bottles and a whole assortment of snacks--Clif blocks, GU, and Powergel. Terrific, because I've never tried any of these snacks before so here's my perfect opportunity. And one of the bottles is Polar--the kind with the insulation--great for the Florida summer heat. And all wrapped in colorful tissue with a cheerful note. I feel like it's Christmas in June! Thanks, Sistah! :D :D :D

I got my package today, lucky for me I came home for lunch! I was so excited when I saw it on the porch and even more so when I opened it. I just told DH, I wanted to get one of the new Polar bottles and now I have one:D . I love the Mojo bars, too, can't wait to eat it. Although, I was bad, I ate the candy bar instead. Now, I just have to find somehting real nutritious for lunch, to counter act the candy! I've never had that combination before, but the rasberry, lemon, biscotti combo was terrific! Thanks again, you've really made my day!
