Just starting a thread on it... since I think people will be less inclined to open an old thread.

Good for you, KSH! Your plan sounds good. Keep us posted. Funny how you had fun on one ride, and the other was misery. It goes like that some days. Take care, Lise

I DID IT!!!!

I stuck to my plan!

Before I left the house... I ate enough food. I also packed food on my bike that I could get to easily.

During my ride... I ate on gel blocks... and I made sure I didn't get hungry.

I memorized the roads we went on (by making up a story in my head... and there were lots of roads we turned on!)... and when we got to 18 miles I stopped and rested because I knew I was getting tired and I was pretty much dropped.

Then, I turned around and find my way all the back to shop.

I HAD A GREAT RIDE!!!

I got to ride half the way with a group... and half the way by myself, at my own pace.

So... great ride... great time! And now I have the confidence to know that I won't get lost!

Overall, my training has been going great! I have focused on what I can do, and making sure that I fun doing it!

Unfortunately though, this other girl did get lost. Luckily, she found a freeway and called her Dad to pick her up and she got back to the shop that way.

Great job girl. Having fun is the most important thing, and I'm glad that you were able to gain some confidence about riding alone. Keep at it and let us know how it's going!!

Good job! It's amazing what we can accomplish if we give ourselves the confidence to step out of the box!
I still need to hook up with a good group out here. Though usually I just ride with my husband. He makes a fab riding partner.
Good, good, good!!
And those clif blocks work great huh?

OH, oddly enough... I didn't know your hubby rode too. That's cool that you two can ride together! My boyfriend and I have been doing a Wednesday night ride together.

The clif blocks work and are so yummy! They remind me of gummy fruit chews I use to eat as a kid.

I am so glad you tried again, and found a way to make it work for you. So it was a 36 mile ride all together? Good for you. And to find a way to memorize the route, that's impressive. Looking forward to more tales of the road!

I've tried those Cliff blocks at expos, but not on the road. I bought a case of gel at a discount when I was training for the marathon, so I feel like I've got to choke back some more of that before I invest in other training treats...that said, I ate some sport beans today (also a sample from an expo)--orange flavor--and liked them a lot. Maybe the gel just needs a bit more salt for me to be able to like it. Oh well. Gel.

Sounds like you gotta eat up some gel!

I honestly think the gel blocks are yummy. I enjoy eating them. The gel is just tolerable in my book.

I should try the beans at some point. They just seem so... small.

I think there's just something so WRONG about gels. YUCK!

To me, the texture is like...what you swallow because you love him...:o ...I try not to think about it, and wash it right down with water. The taste is OK, too sweet for me, maybe better if it were saltier, but the texture...blech. I just didn't know there were blocks and beans! I cannot eat bars while running, don't do much better with them while biking. Gels sit fine on my stomach. It's just getting them past the gag reflex! :o L.

I don't like the creamy gels (chocolate, vanilla... etc.) but I LOVE the Clif Razz Sorbet ones. Think of eating jam by the spoon. Most citrus flavors I can't stand.

I am looking forward to finding the bloks, still unseen in my part of Canada...

Maybe you can order the blocks off the Internet if you are interested?

I know for me though, I have to try something before I purcahse large quantities of it.
