Hi ladies! I have a road bike and am interested in getting a mountain bike. I want to use it on trails with my kids and as an extra bike. Probably won't use it that much. I don't have a lot of money and was looking at the Trex 4300 or 4500 and also a Jamis bike. Do I need to spend a lot on the bike?

My road bike is a Specialized Docle Sport, nothing fancy. I bought it before I knew much about bikes. I am happy with it. My main focus right now is running but I want to get out on the bike more.

This forum seems like a great place and I can learn a lot here.

Only if you want to... I'm sure the Trek 4300/4500 would suit your needs. Though, some of those drive train parts on those bikes are not the greatest in terms of durability and performance. Are you hitting rail trails or hard core single track? If it is easy type terrain, then I wouldn't worry about it. If you're thinking of hitting more difficult terrain, then you might want better components groups.
