I have recently started training indoors on my turbo trainer using the Chris Carmichael training dvds. I was just curious what sort of power output/wattage I should be doing and what it is realistic to aim for. As a newbie I haven't a clue!!!!!

Start with doing what you can. Don't expect some of the monster watts you may hear people put out. First off they have been riding longer then you, different genetics, training, even sex matters.

At first use wattages that are a challenge for you but you can complete the program. Then when you get that down start increasing the watts. I think when it starts to feel easier its time to turn it up a little.

Usually the CTS DVDs use a wattage OR heart rate "floor". Since I don't have a power meter, I use the heart rate method (and sometimes even perceived effort). Doe the ones you have not use heart rate?

I don't think I get any less out of the workout when I just focus on cadence if I don't use my monitor (as with the CTS TT one).

:) thankyou for your replies my steady state wattage is 160 at the moment with maximul sprint at around 230 haven't used the heart rate one may give it a whirl and see what it's doing(might find out I am dieing!)I started at 140 with my cts field test result ,but it has been getting easier. The problem is my only comparison is my hubby who can push 300 in steady state to over 400 maximul!( He is however superfit! )
