It has occured to me that I'll need a bike rack. I will not get a roof bike rack, I won't be able to reach it, I'm gonna have to have a rear rack. Problem with that is that I have a Honda CRV which does not come with a hitch. Does anyone have this same problem, if so, how did you resolve it.

Geez, haven't even gotten Oscar out of the shop yet & already am becoming obsessed:o

I have a two-inch hitch, with a Yakima bike rack. I love it. The rack locks, so no one can steal it. The rack also has a built-in locking cable, so they can't be stolen, either. It's so easy. Any trailer hitch place can set you up with the hitch.

I also have a CRV. I can put 3 bikes on top using a step stool. I also have a Thule Spare Me for the rear tire. It can be locked on; however it only carries two bikes.

I would recommend trying the local bike shop. We have a Thule Speedway 2, which we used on our Saturn VUE. It is now working great on my new Dodge Caliber. I think CRV's have a spare tire though? I am not sure it will work with one.

You could check Thule's (http://www.thuleracks.com/thule/fg_vehicle.asp)website. Some others to try:

Yakima (http://www.yakima.com/)- Looks like the Spare Joe would work
Saris (http://www.saris.com/products/bones.htm)- I see a lot of the Bones racks around here. Not sure it would work with a tire.

I have a CRV and got this hitch from Uhaul: http://store.uhaul.com/hitch_detail.aspx?id=3704

Very easy to use with a bike rack - this is what I bought for 2 bikes: http://orangecycleorlando.com/itemdetails.cfm?ID=3320

Good luck!

Hi, sorry just saw this post. I have a CRV with a thule bike rack on the back. I had a hitch installed a U-Haul. I think it was about $150. The rack was another story :D It works great though.

A friend of mine has a CRV and she got a bike rack that mounts on the spare tire holder, similar to this unit:

I have a Jeep Wrangler, and got a spare mounted bike rack from Saris. It was fairly easy to install... I did it myself! The hardest part was hefting the spare tire back on.

Here's what it looks like:
