Hi Everyone,

I finally made it out test riding again. I thought I had my mind made up on the Giant OCR comp2 2005 model but the owner would not drop the price enough so I could afford it. They wanted $1799 which when I initially called she quoted but also mentioned doing better. I looked up other dealers on line and saw some close outs for $1599 which is what I was hoping for. I told them I also liked the Trek Pilots and the Trek dealer could put me in an 05' Pilot 5.0 for $1600 and still nothing. I also was going to get all the gear there - shoes, shorts, speedometer and maybe jersey. Anyway I left sulking and went to call another Trek Dealer since they would have to order it out. I asked if they had Pilot 5.o wsd in stock but of course no one does so I asked them if they all order from the store and if he could meet the other Trek Dealers Price which I lied and said it was $1500 and he said he would!! I was about 2hrs away from home shopping and thought now maybe I should actually run this by my local Trek Dealer and see if they could match this? Also told them I'd rather buy local and get all my gear there too. He said that seemed really low and asked which dealer I got this from? Anyway he said he would get back to me tomorrow so I hope it goes through. If not I think I will make the drive to other dealer. I rode the Pilot 1.2 for the correct frame today and it felt great but I'm really hoping to get into the all carbon but the $300 is really streching the budget. The Giant of course felt great being my first carbon ride but would get the stem shorter and smaller handlebars. My only other wish was to ride an Orbea but nearest dealer another 2.5 hrs away and my mindset is go full carbon even though they look awesome. Wish me luck.

I rode the Giant TCR2 and Pilot 2.1 (among other things) and fell in love with the Pilot. The Giant I rode didn't have nearly as much carbon as you're looking at, but it was pretty stiff. Very very stable, but stiff. The Pilot absorbs the bumps beautifully! The ride I just came back from this morning felt so smooth! Good luck! The price on the 5.0 is worth the 2 hour drive. Just pack some cadbury eggs and you'll be good to go ;)

Thanks for everyone's advice on here. I orderd the 2005 Trek Pilot 5.0 today the silver color from my local Trek shop as they agreed to my price. I think it even has Dura Ace on the rear according to the 05' Specs. I'm so excited I can barely wait and relieved the search is over!! I'll have to learn how to post a picture for you all when she comes in. How will I sleep at night?

Excited,
Wisconsin -now up to 73* here!

Good luck with your Trek... I would have voted Giant, we have 6 Giants and they have been ideal for us.

We do have one Trek and a few others also... must do a head-count in the stable, not quite sure how many bikes we have now.

Anyways, looking forward to hearing about your first ride on her... a new bike is a new bike and its damned exciting!

CONGRATS!! On the new pilot. Sounds like you are getting a great deal too.It is nice that you were able to get into a carbon frame you were wanting. I am loving my new pilot but I have to confess I kind of miss the excitment of shopping for it.

Congrats on the Pilot! You'll love her! How long till she comes in???? There is a bit of a letdown after the great search ends. But - soon you'll be riding in bliss and all will be well :)
