Well - I did it! I bought a bike today. A Pilot 2.1 WSD! I love it! I tried a bunch and did tons of testrides and felt at home on the Pilot. I realize now how important it is to do testrides. The different bikes felt sooo different from one another. And - they even had a little hill nearby. Eek - what's that?
I was shaking when I went into the LBS. The guy helped me - all day - right through lunch! He was so patient and full of good info. He was very candid -which was nice.
I brought it home and rode it around the neighborhood while hubby and the kids watched and cheered me on! My husband took it for a test spin and now wants one! It's amazing how much faster it is than the 7200FX! And soooooo much lighter! Geez those tires are skinny!
And Lise - I, of course, brought cadbury minieggs for a snack on the road :)
Now - I guess I have to name her. She's silver. I'll post a pic tomorrow or later tonight - need to get dinner going right now.
note - I also got in my zeal sunglasses today (for the 2nd try) - not sure on them yet. I tried on Tifosi's at the LBS - worked pretty well.
Wow - I own a roadbike! Pinch me.:D
Yep, it's real! You own a beautiful new bike, you've got great shades, and the perfect Easter candy fuel! Congratulations. Looking forward to the pictures! :D Lise

Congrats on your first roadbike!!! There's nothing like the freedom I feel when I ride my bike around town (hence, the reason she's named Freedom- it also helps that she's blue w/white and red accents).
I'm so happy for you!!!! Enjoy your new friend, and all the times you'll have together.:D

Here are pictures of the beautiful bike and me. Just click the thumbnail. I'm slouching - gotta work on that! I'm still working on a name :)
I rode today in some hefty wind and the bike cut through it like butter! My hands need to get used to the new positions. Ooh this is going to be fun!

Great pictures!!
Gorgeous bike!!! How nice to see a picture of you, too. Looks like you're at least a month ahead of us on spring down there. Ride on!

Lise - yup - tulips are done blooming. Everything is getting nice and green. The hostas are up. My japanese maple is totally leafed out and the crepe myrtle is also starting. We have strawberries on the strawberry plants! Yummy!

Congrats on your new addition to your family! She is beautiful!
Gotta add something: Your mentioning hubby and kids watching you reminded me of Christmas 2004 when I got Fatty Lumpkin (my road bike). I couldn't unclip and when the family watched me, I was lying (laying, prone, splatted, whatever :) ) in the road in front of my house. Glad I got that over with quickly!

I'm waiting until I go back for the 90-day check-up for the bike. THEN, I'm going to go for the clipless pedals. The guy at the LBS said he'd put me on the trainer and give me some lessons on unclipping to help with the learning curve and then he'd refit me on the bike with the new pedals. Slick, eh?

Wow, fish... cool bike... pics are a bit dark, but the whole attitude of your stance says you are a pretty proud parent!
Enjoy!

Ooohh lovely bike. Let me know how you get on with that saddle though. I call them the Bontranger torture device and changed mine out pretty quick.
Just looking at your bike picture and seeing that saddle makes me cringe.:D

Nice wheels, fishdr! May you have many happy rides together :)
Me too, Trek! I had my Evil Bonty (I'm sure that was the actual model name ;)) on my Tass for months beore I could afford to change it out. It didn't seem that comfy when I first tried out the bike, but I hadn't ridden for four months and convinced myself that it would be fine after I'd had a week or two to break in my arse. Ha! I shouldn't have listened to myself - never manged to adjust that saddly so that both the girly-bits and the rear-end were both happy for more than about 8kms, and I always ended up with sore muscles in my upper back from the way I was sitting to relieve the presure elsewhere. Does anyone like their Bontrager saddles?

I think calling the Bontrager saddle a torture device is putting it mildly. Yes it's miserable and the arse and bits are unhappy, however I'm going to put up with it until that 90 maintenance check-up when I get the clipless pedals put on. The saddle on the hybrid wasn't much better. It's hard for me to justify spending any more money right now. I spent a little more money than I was planning on - I didn't expect to walk out of the LBS with a Pilot 2.1:)
Trek makes such beautiful bikes with quality components - why do they feel a need to torture us with crappy saddles? Ugh!
After I hit the wind from the south this morning, my mind was more on pushing through the wind than on how much my arse hurt.

Heh. When I was bike shopping I was looking for something basic to get about on in the £250 region. Ended up with £650 Gary Fisher hardtail on finance.  :p :D (And I love her dearly. :))

Yah - when you ride the right bike - you just know and HAVE to buy it. I'm sure glad I didn't even dare get on the Mitis Dama. Luckily I couldn't even be tempted - they had it in the warehouse, not out in the store.
