Ibex Wear wool shorts and knickers?

Has anyone tried Ibex Wear's wool bike shorts or 3/4 bike tights, a.k.a. knickers? I am deeply, madly, passionately in love with my Ibex jacket, L/S t-shirt, and boxers (nope, they don't itch!) but hesitate to buy the bike knickers cuz I wonder about chafing. I also wonder how the chamois compares to the one in Terry's commuter skort, which is my favorite chamois.

(secret confession time: I like Ibex clothing better than Smartwool, Icebreaker, Woolrich, or Duofold. And I'm a major wool freak. Smartwool wins for socks.)

I have tried on and very nearly bought the Ibex knickers about 4 times now. I always hold back because the Large is just a wee bit large for me and the Medium is still a little too sausage-y. I want to love them, but they don't love me back. :rolleyes: I have no idea about the Terry skort chamois, but the chamois in the Ibex knickers is very heavy duty. Century quality, from what I'd guess.

That being said, I absolutely lurve my smartwool socks, ibex and smartwool base layers, defeet wool armwarmers, sheila moon wool tank, etc. etc. :D

Ok, so now when I win the lottery I'll pick up some Ibex knickers. Hot diggity dog! The sales chickie at Ibex told me that "last years" biking clothes should be going on sale in late spring. I'll post it when/if it happens!:D

Ohhh, let us know. I've been eyeing everything by Ibex. After doing mtb. touring, I decided wool is the way to go because of how much I stink with synthetics. But haven't had the chance to try Ibex.

Right now they're having a clearance on winter stuff and some leftover summer stuff from last year. Got my long sleeved t shirt for 1/2 price. Check their website often, cuz it seems like the items in the "outlet" part change every couple weeks.

I'm just trying to restrain myself until the biking knickers go on sale!:p

And, yeah, I'm a stinky chickie; but whoa-nelly does wool cut that problem down to size! And I've washed the boxers in the machine several times with no pilling or losing shape. No runs, either. Unlike some wooly brands I could mention.

Ibex stuff is the greatest! And I'm one who avoided wool for years because it made me itch. The REI cycling staff told me about Ibex tops last year--"wicks great, doesn't stink", and I have several. I also find Smartwool socks to work well too.

Now that I'm a confirmed wool socks fan, I'm curious about other garments. How do you go about drying the shirts and pants. I have to use the dryer but can use the lightest setting.

Do you have to buy a size up the shrinkage factor?

I too am a confirmed wool socks gal!!! I also have wool shells from REI and 2 longed sleeved wool undershirts with scoop necks that I got from REI as well. I wash them in the washing machine and then let them dry on a hanger. My machine gets garments pretty dry anyway. I just got my size and they haven't shrunk at all. The dryer and hot water is what will do them in!

The likes of Icebreaker and Ibex and Smartwool are designed to be machine washable, but yeah, use your machine's wool cycle or a cold wash to be on the safe side. :)

I wash my wool things in the washer on cold/cold or cold/warm (just never hot). Then hang dry overnight. If I need them to dry faster I'll run them in the dryer on low heat for 5-10 minutes and then take them out and hang dry to finish.

I'm with you guys. I love the IBEX stuff, but I'm peeved that they seem not have women specific in XL. : (

Also they were making a fabulous relaxed fit jersey that they discontinued.

If you check Sierratradingpost.com sometimes they have SCREAMING deals on IBex. I never paid more than $30 for it.

I got some Ibex knickers, I got some Ibex knickers!

On a tip from the TE board, I went to TiCycles to see what Ibex they had on sale. I found ONE pair of men's XL knickers. Bummer. Ibex sells out quickly.

Helpful salesgirl found M women's hanging on the wrong rack. She was all excited: Oh, good, and they're mediums!

I was downhearted. I'm definately a L in Ibex bottoms. She had me try them on anyway. I'm prancing around the store in my too-small knickers and she said they fit fine.

MEDIUM!!!!!

I bought them, even though I'm sure Larges would've fit better. (hey, 40 % off!) The chamois doesn't quite hit me right, but felt fine on the bike.

MEDIUM!

I haven't worn medium anything on my caboose in probably 20 years. Now I gotta ride much more so I can fit my knickers better!

Love the knickers, by the way. I got 'em in the washer right now, and plan to wear them on a Team Survivor ride tomorrow.

Have to take Felicia Golightly down to RCC first. I think I bent my wheel after a fall yesterday (just a bruised knee and ego going up my hill).

Watch out on the BG if you ride it. I saw three unleased dogs on the side right around Matthews yesterday. People seem to have a lack of common sense when it comes to dogs at times.

There was only ONE pair, so ya better go there fast!

I'm tentatively planning to go there tomorrow post TSNW ride and get Shimano Free Ride pedals (to match with Diadora shoes from Performance). What a cool bike shop! I LOVE it. Just as much (and from the opposite end of the spectrum) as Recycled Cycles.

I will watch for doggies on the BG.

How to make Medium Ibexes fit a Large heinie: put 'em on fresh from the washer (wet! and the most excitement I've had in months!) and sit in a lawn chair in the sun drinking Red Hook Extra Special Bitter with your knees up by your chin as you read "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown.

Now I have the hiccups.

I adore Ibex as well but my complaints are in the w's sizing.
1) The lack of an XL in many of the w's styles
2) As a am a strapping young lass (over 6 feet) the tops are always REALLY cropped on me. Which I hate for several reasons. Mostly because the bottom of the shirt is above my waist in most pants creating the illusion that my boobs are really low and resting on my stomach (ok, that may be my own paranoia), but also because if I stretch or say, I dunno, bend over handle bars my back and flabby stomach are exposed. Arcteryx makes a few wool tops that seem to run a little longer in the torso, but they too tend to stop at a size L and I feel that there L is really more of a M (ahem, yes it could just be me again).
So, sadly for me I have found that I can really only wear some of the Ibex casual wear/sweaters or use the tops for layering vs athletics.
Finally, despite my love of wool and knowing that the Ibex stuff doesn't itch I still fear their wool underwear esp. the thongs. Thongs creep me out, but wool thongs? That makes me feel really funny.

All of you who want Ibex to make better fitting sizes: Write to them! Tell them what you like and what you don't! They are such a cool bunch of people, and they really need to hear from their customers. They could well make some sizes, and ask you to test them. Ya never know.

Ibex L fits me perfectly, long enough sleeves, long enough body, perfect across the shoulders, etc. L boxers fit me great. The M knickers are a bit iffy, but they were on sale.
