View Full Version : Jerseys - How many is too many?

In theory, I only get to ride once or twice a week, so the two I have can easily be washed out and reworn. Not to mention the countless number of non cotton workout tops I have. (No back pockets though.) There's two I want right now (iris and hill slug) and I'm sure I'll get around to an event or two someday....

So, how many is too many? :p

Who out there wins for the most jerseys owned?

Oooo, ooo, ooo,(raising hand eagerly) I think I might be in the running for this one!:p I am at work right now, so I can't do a count til later. But I've been putting all my budgeted "clothing" money into jerseys for the past few months. I ride 5-6 times a week (except in winter) but still that hardly justifies the multitude of shirts I have amassed.

How many jerseys is too many? I think you may be asking the wrong crowd here, that's like asking Imelda Marcos how many pairs of shoes are too many.

The fact that I prefer to go shopping for cycling clothes rather than real clothes says something about me :o

But I suppose if you can't close your "jersey drawer", that might be a sign...

I have (that I can remember at work- might be missing one sleeveless, not sure)

6 tanks- love them all. 4 Shebeest, 2 Terry Presta

9 sleeveless- like four a lot, one's an event jersey, others may be seeking new homes. Nice for when I don't want as much sun as I get with a tank.

5 short sleeve- I don't really wear short sleeve any more. Either sleeveless, w or w/o bolero, or it's cold enough for LS

3 long sleeve- was only one till recently- but caught two that were on my wishlist since last fall on clearance. I didn't think I needed more than one, but I wore the heck out of that one, since I was riding more/in colder weather than any other year, so got two more.

Total: 23

I bet people can beat that!!

I am assuming we are only counting jerseys with pockets in them as opposed to tech shirts which one may wear underneath.

21 short sleeve. I tend to get them at events or places - and I firmly believe you cannot wear a jersey unless you have done the event! My favorites are my 3 death ride jerseys, Alpe d'Huez, Mont Ventoux, Mt. Tam Double, Cinderella 2001, and of course the Triple Crown jersey!

6 sleeveless. I have a triple crown one and a great barleywine one with flying pigs and pink bubbles!

2 tanks.

5 long sleeve.

Suddenly....buying 2 jerseys...making my total FIVE....doesn't seem that bad. ;) I do wish they were sleeveless though. I'd love tanks but now I'm wondering if my new camelbak will rub my shoulder blades...

i wear my camel back with my racer back jerseys and my shoulders are fine! you can try sleeveless though... that's will enough coverage for the camelback to be completely on material and not skin!

Ok, I added them up, guess I didn't win. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing?

6 long sleeve jerseys (canari, nike, performance)
9 short sleeve jerseys (canari, REI, Pearl Izumi, Terry, MEC, LL Bean)
10 sleeveless jerseys/tanks (Canari, Cannondale, Gore, Shebeest, Ascent, Primal Wear, Terry)
When are we going to count shorts???????:D

Well, let's say that I agree with many of you... I would much rather shop for cycling clothing than regular every day clothing. Now I haven't counted each one.... but if I added all the tanks, sleeveless, short sleeve and many long sleeve(living here in Maine) I can come up with well over 50. So... like all of you, many of them have great stories!!

3 basic Primal Wear, which used to be my favorite till
1 Trashy Cat Satin Shorts- perfection
1 Trashy Cat Sunflower Shorts- slightly less perfect fabric and chamois, but pretty!
1 Sugoi Tri something or other which I hate!!!!!!!!!

I only ever wear the TC's. So I may as well have one.

The closest thing I have to a genuine jersey is a Sugoi Acer T (total impulse buy, but I had the cash, for once - no, wait, I think that went on my credit card :o). Given that I always seem to ride with a backpack or a CamelBak on, I can live without back pockets. I've got plenty of ordinary work-out t-shirts/singlets and thermals from the snowboarding cache that I use. Not to say there isn't plenty I would buy if I stuck it rich... :p

I live in a 2 bedroom apartment - OK so one of the bedrooms is technically my office but I also use the second closet for my bike jerseys. I have alot; too many to count. Yes, it's a sickness!!!!!! Also ask me how many cycling socks I own... another sickness!!!!

caligurl
04-13-2006, 08:12 PM
ok.... i had a chance to count:

23 long sleeve
22 short sleeve
8 sleeveless
17 racerback/shimmels

for a grand total of 70 (good lord! DON'T let my hubby know! i won't be able to by any new jerseys for years! ACK!) and i've only been cycling a year and a half! HELP ME!

plus i already know of at least 3 short sleeves that i plan to get from rides (2 i have to earn... one i just think is kind of cool!)

i also have 5 cycling jackets (2 warm ones and 3 windbreaker type) and a vest and a rain jacket!

UHG! my name is caligurl and i'm a shop-a-holic!

like BCI pam.... i have my cycling stuff in a separate closet in the "xbox room" formerly known as "hubby's tv room" *rolls eyes* .. however they share space with my other workout clothes (sports bras, shorts, exercise pants, ect) and all my jammies (ya... i like cute, comfy jammies as much as i like other clothes!) (hubby gets a portion of the closet in the computer room for his jerseys!)

you didn't ask about how many shorts, tights, arm warmers head bands, gloves and socks (although i'm not so much into the cute socks like the rest of you cuz they are too high up on my leg.... i prefer the ones that are really, really low cut... that's a bad enough tanline for me without raising it to my ankle! i pretty much only wear the really cute, higher ones when i wear tights or leg warmers!)

so who's calling the first meeting of cycling clothers overbuyer anonymous??????????

I'm interested in how you all store your multitudes of jerseys (and shorts) - like caligurl, do you have a separate space for them? do you fold them? do they live in a tub? shoved in the closet? I struggle with this every year (and as the number of jerseys increases).

For the record, I have:
9 short sleeve
3 long sleeve
0 tanks/sleeveless!
2 pair MTB shorts
7 pairs of shorts
and 1 skinsuit (that counts as a top and a bottom!)

caligurl

jackets, long sleeve, short sleeve and sleevless are hanging... the racer backs are folded/stuffed into a cubby.... i have 1/2 the closet with a bar... under that bar are 6 "cubbies" that hold the previously mentioned racerbacks, shorts, tights, workout pants, workout pant/jacket sets/ long sleeve/thermal tops and cycling underwear thermals... the other side of the closet and above the bar is wire shelving (closet maid) and i stack the rest of my workout clothes (sports bras, tops, shorts) and jammies (and some sweatshirts and turtlenecks on the very top shelves)

socks and headbands are in baskets on the floor (separate workout socks from cycling socks)

gloves, arm and leg warmers are in the garage in baskets (as well as helmets and shoes) in baskets or on shelves in a stackable sections by the bikes....

hubby's jerseys all hang in the computer room closet... he gets about a 1/4 of the bar (i have some other stuff in there and the other half has stuff stacked/stored up to to the bar) he keeps his shorts in the closet in our bedroom in cubbies...

OK, I'm home now and can check:

god, this is embarrassing

My cycling wardrobe:

tops:
3 tanks
4 sleeveless jerseys
3 shortsleeve jerseys
4 longsleeve jerseys
2 longsleeve baselayers
4 light jackets
2 rain jackets

bottoms:
3 shorts
1 knickers
1 unpadded capri coverpant
2 unpadded tights
2 rain pants

accessories:
2 pr short finger gloves
2 pr full finger gloves
1 pr booties
4 pr wool socks
1 pr armwarmers
1 bolero
1 helmet rain cover
1 balaclava

I think that's everything. At least I can console myself with the idea that a lot of my cycling clothing also gets used as ski layers in winter and general outdoor wear. Most items are neutral colors and designs, I really only have 3 "loud" jerseys for fun events and occasions.

ROFL - I have a "cycling room" where my bikes live and I have a dresser there for some of my bikie clothes, then I use the closet in the spare room for the rest of them. I didn't count but I figure since I can go 2 wks without doing laundry, I have enough underwear, enough shirts, and enough bikie clothes! ;) :D

I only have 5 jerserys and I constantly want more. All have sleeves and my next investment is some sleeveless jerseys for summer. In Texas we hardly need long sleeves, I have yet to buy a single long sleeve jersey. I have one set of arm warmers, two sets of tights and a light weight jacket. This is enough for Texas. I have 4 sets of shorts. I do have way too many pairs of socks. I always want to buy those in 2s or 3s?

My husband would be happy if we could have our own room just for cycling clothes and bikes.

Let's see now. I've got:

2 long-sleeved and 1 short-sleeved Coolmax shirts; not actually cycle jerseys, but close-fitting wicking fabric so near enough.

1 Jaggad short-sleeved jersey, which I don't much care for.

And just today, my Where The Wild Things Are jersey arrived from PrimalWear :D

When I'm commuting, I just tend to wear Bonds t-shirts; I'm not on the bike for long enough to worry about high-tech fabrics and aerodynamics.

I see I need to start doing some more shopping. All the cycling specific clothing I own is a pair of cycling socks. They were a gift from Trek420 a while back:D : yellow with "Impeach Bush" in big black letters. Very compfy. I'm wearing them at the moment. Hopefully in May I will aquire a jersey and a pair of shorts or two and some propre cycling shoes.....

Looks like I have some shopping to do to catch up with some of you ladies!! :p This is what I have:
4 short sleeved jerseys
1 technical top
4 pair shorts
1 pair tights
1 reflective jacket/windbreaker
1 pair toe covers
4 pair gloves
Countless socks

I need to get some arm & leg warmers, a couple long sleeved jerseys and a couple more short sleeved ones, then I am good to go. Heh, I am going helmet shopping this weekend, maybe I can sneak a jersey in there as well!

I think I'm going to have to join Tikiwi and UKElephant in the minimalists club. :)

Nearest thing to a cycling jersey I own is a Katmandu top.

One pair of knicks, no special socks, mountain bike shoes, rain jacket, one pair of fingerless gloves and helmet ... that's it.

Oh yes, forgot to mention I am about to make some arm warmers now that the weather is turning cooler down here.
