Last night I was mentioning, yet again - in a non-nagging way, how much I wanted a road bike and hubby said I should spend my bonus on it! :D :D :D I literally jumped around the living room! I couldn't contain myself. We've been trying to keep spending pretty tight and pay off some bills. I look to him for fiscal responsibility - I'm really bad at keeping up with the bills, so he tracks the budget. I can't believe it! I've been waiting to do any test rides until I knew I had the money to buy because I'm a bit impulsive ;) OMG - I'm so excited! I just had to share!

I'm heading to the LBS (2 hours away) before the end of the week. I want to go NOW!!!

As you know - I've researched this into the ground and I have a good feel for what components, etc. I need and can afford. Yikes - I'm gettting a road bike!:D

What kind of bikes does LBS carry? What are you going to look at??

So excited for you! Keep us posted! What snacks you eat on your two hour drive, how you park the car (parallel? diagonal? random?), how the LBS staff greets you....all a prelude to....the BIKE! :p :p :p

Have a great time! :D L.

If I go to Jackson (good phone experience with them) - there are 2 shops - carrying: Orbea (out of my price range, but oh so pretty), Trek, Giant, and Lemond.

If I go to Memphis - I can add in Specialized, but that's pushing my price range - I need shoes and likely a new saddle, too. I'm trying to keep the bike under $1200 so I can get what else I need. 7% takes don't help.

I want to go right NOW!

I'm thinking about Trek 1500 (don't know if I need WSD or not), Giant OCR1, or Specialized Dolce Elite. Maybe I'll luck out and they'll have a beauty just sitting there waiting for me with the perfect components and everything! Ha! Maybe they'll have the Orbea on sale!

I will definitely keep y'all posted on my shopping adventures.

You don't need a 51", do you? There's a really nice bike for sale here that's a steal. Trek 2100 WSD.

I wouldn't even look at the Orbeas, it would just make me so envious!!!

Have fun shopping!!! But take your time - look around and try different things at any shop that is within range. I know you want it NOW ("I want an Oompa Loompa now Daddy!"), but better to pace yourself and make sure you get the best bang for the buck.

Have fun!

I just got a bridgestone rb1 and love it love it love it. If I had known how much fun I was going to have on a road bike, I doubt I'd have ever gone mtn. Just seemed the thing to do at the time.

I could get the Orbea Volata for $1250. Good deal? I'd still need to buy pedals and shoes. Here it is:

Don't discount the Lemond either... they have a WSD bike as well... my friend just got the Lemond Zurich with Campy and a triple... she LOVES the feel of the bike... steel is pretty comfie... and hers is 1/2 steel and 1/2 CF...

she got it for $1400 but that's CA pricing... should be more reasonable in non-gouging states...:D good luck and I hope you find the perfect bike for YOU!

And that Orbea is prrrreeeeettttttyyyy......:D

You are just going to have to ride and see what feels the best. Plus they will probably do a fit check on you, and have recommendations.
